Salary Range: Individual Contract, $70,000 - $85,500/yr, depending on years of experience and qualifications

Position Summary

The Systems and Network Specialist ensures the secure, reliable, and equitable operation of all district technology systems, including servers, network infrastructure, and telecommunications. This role is essential in maintaining systems that support equitable access to digital learning environments for all students and staff, regardless of background or ability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Network Infrastructure and Internet Connectivity

Monitor, repair, and maintain district servers, network services, and building-to-building Internet connections.

Ensure consistent, reliable Internet access across all schools and departments to support equitable learning opportunities. Network and Systems Management

Maintain virus protection, firewalls, routers, VPNs, and ISP configurations.

Implement and manage VMware environments, SAN, NAS, wireless systems, and managed switches to support scalable and inclusive technology services. Storage, Backup, and Recovery

Perform and verify data backups, ensuring data integrity and availability.

Support data migration, file transfers, and file recovery operations.

Ensure reliable backup and disaster recovery strategies aligned with instructional and administrative needs. Identity and Access Management

Administer user accounts and group policies within Microsoft Active Directory.

Ensure secure and equitable access to digital tools for students, staff, and administrators. System Monitoring and Performance

Monitor hardware and server resources, system logs, and key processes.

Verify completion of automated tasks such as backups and updates to maintain system stability. Operating System and Application Maintenance

Apply system updates, security patches, and software upgrades.

Maintain administrative tools and utilities to ensure system performance and security. Email System Administration

Install, configure, and support district email systems to facilitate communication for educational and administrative purposes. Workstation Imaging and Deployment

Develop and manage standardized workstation images.

Deploy images across the district to support consistent and inclusive user experiences. Equipment Maintenance and Documentation

Analyze performance and repair logs to determine equipment needs.

Maintain records of repairs, system functions, and an inventory of parts to reduce downtime. User Support and Troubleshooting

Provide phone and in-person technical support for network, workstation, and peripheral issues.

Troubleshoot problems quickly and effectively to minimize disruptions to learning and operations. Vendor Collaboration

Coordinate with external vendors for service, maintenance, and product support.

Ensure third-party services align with district standards and equity goals. Other Duties as Assigned

Carry out additional responsibilities in support of technology equity and system-wide functionality. Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or graduation from a certified technical program with 3 years of client/server experience.

Alternatively, 6 years of relevant experience in network server or application support.

Experience working in a school district, specifically within the technology department.

Experience with Windows applications. Preferred Qualifications

Microsoft Security certification or equivalent experience.

Proficiency with Microsoft Windows Server, Exchange, SharePoint, and System Center.

Experience with virtualized environments such as VMware.

Familiarity with Apple technology and assistive technologies is preferred. Skills

Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.

Dedication to ensuring equitable access to technology for all students.

Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.

Availability to work evenings or weekends when necessary. Reporting and Collaboration

Reports to the designated IT or Technology Assistant Director.

Collaborates across departments to support technology infrastructure aligned with district goals.

May provide indirect guidance on specific projects or initiatives. Physical Requirements

Requires ability to lift and carry equipment (40+ lbs), walk, climb, balance, kneel, and reach.

Must be able to work in varied physical environments.
