The Boulder County Clerk and Recorder’s office is seeking a dynamic and strategic Motor Vehicle Division Director to join the leadership team within the office. We know “Motor Vehicle” might not sound like the most exciting part of local government—but that’s exactly what makes this role such a powerful opportunity. This pivotal role will guide the long-term vision and daily operations of Motor Vehicle services across three branch locations, with influence that extends across the state as a thought leader and innovator in the public service space.
As a member of our office’s leadership team, the Motor Vehicle Division Director will help shape organizational direction, model our values, and lead change that improves public service, advances equity, and supports strong and resilient teams. This is a full-time, benefited position that will work Monday - Thursday 7:00am - 5:30pm.This position will work out of 1750 33rd St. Boulder, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is exempt.
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
Hiring Salary Range: $87,948.00 – $107,322.00 Annually
Tentative Hiring Timeline:

New employees receive an 80-hour bank of vacation at the time of hire, in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each month (Must not have been employed at Boulder County during the 12 months prior to re-hire date to qualify). Examples of Duties
Strategic Leadership & Direction
Serve as a member of the Clerk and Recorder’s leadership team, helping define and drive the office’s long-term strategic direction.
Lead the Motor Vehicle Division’s 3-year strategic plan and set division-wide priorities.
Collaborate with other counties and statewide partners to influence and innovate Motor Vehicle systems and policies.
Work closely with the Elected Official on legislative strategy and service delivery initiatives.People & Organizational Development
Lead a team of 46, including three Motor Vehicle branches and direct reports: 3 Branch Managers, 1 Trainer, and 1 Systems Specialist.
Support and develop leaders at all levels to foster a culture of accountability, growth, and continuous improvement.
Build inclusive systems that ensure all team members have the tools, voice, and support to succeed.Operational Excellence & Change Leadership
Oversee daily operations with a focus on quality, compliance, and public service.
Lead efforts to modernize systems, improve efficiency, and enhance customer experience.
Collaborate with the Department of Revenue and participate in state-level committees to influence statewide Motor Vehicle processes.
Drive implementation of new systems and technologies.Values Advancement
Model and lead a culture rooted in the office’s values: Service, Equity & Inclusion, Accountability, Alignment, and Adaptability.
Ensure Motor Vehicle services are accessible and equitable for all community members.
Use data, feedback, and outreach to identify barriers and improve service delivery.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of 6 years of combined education and experience to include 3 years in a supervisory role.
