Job Title: Tool Room Manager
Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Tool Room Manager to lead our efforts in increasing machine utilization and capacity. This role is vital for reducing lead times for mold tooling and minimizing dependence on outside suppliers. With a significant portion of our SR mold-making staff approaching retirement, we need a strategic leader to implement succession plans and focus on work environment and career paths for retention of future employees.
Responsibilities
Establish a comprehensive global vision by organizing departments such as grinding, EDM, and polishing, planning workflow through these departments, developing a tooling production planner, and reducing lead times.
Implement standard operating procedures focused on standardizing training practices, sharing machinery, and ensuring effective work transitions between day and night shifts.
Oversee the implementation of the Tool Room Trainee Program, collaborating with HR to locate potential apprentices and ensuring training effectiveness.
Cultivate a team environment that attracts, motivates, and retains the next generation of employees, through challenges, exposure to various departments, and clear career paths.
Identify and eliminate roadblocks to efficient workflow in the shop.
Research and propose new technologies and machinery to enhance productivity.
Establish controlled storage and organization of consumables to minimize time wasted searching for tools.Essential Skills
Experience with CNC machining and mold tool building.
Experience managing a large tool room or mold shop, or running a mold-making business.
Proficiency in training and motivating the next generation of mold and tool & die makers.
Understanding of workflow management.
Experience in implementing SOPs.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Exposure to composite molding, rubber molding, or die casting is advantageous.
Working knowledge of MasterCAM is a plus.
Skills in toolmaking, tool & die design, EDM machining, supervision, and conventional machining.

Work Environment
The position operates on the first shift from 6 AM to 4 PM, with an expectation of 15 hours of overtime each week. There is potential for direct placement in this role.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Glendale, California.Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $65.00/hr.
