Juniata College, a nationally ranked liberal arts institution located in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, seeks an IT Security Analyst to join our collaborative and innovative Campus Network and Security (CNS) team. This role is critical to securing the digital infrastructure that supports the academic and administrative operations for our students, faculty, and staff.

The IT Security Analyst is responsible for the daily monitoring and protection of the institution's technology infrastructure, ensuring systems are safeguarded against unauthorized access, vulnerabilities, and emerging threats. This role involves identifying and managing security risks, implementing and maintaining tools for spam filtering, software patching, and intrusion detection and prevention. The analyst enforces information security policies and supports their integration across systems, applications, and user practices. The analyst will conduct risk assessments to evaluate the potential impact of security threats to data and institutional reputation, investigate incidents and recommend remediation strategies, and ensure compliance with security standards, relevant policies, and procedures. Additionally, the IT Security Analyst plays a key role in educating users on cybersecurity best practices and collaborates closely with IT teams and campus partners to strengthen the institution's overall security posture.

The IT Security Analyst must work collaboratively within the Campus Technology Services organization and have well-developed customer service and communication skills.

Strong communication and customer service skills are essential, as the analyst will work collaboratively across Campus Technology Services, including the Administrative Information Systems team, Network Services, and the Technology Solutions Center. Key Responsibilities

•Monitor and manage centralized monitoring and observability solutions to ensure infrastructure visibility and timely alerting of anomalous events. Ensure that logs, metrics, and alerting align with organizational security and operational requirements.

•Manage, monitor, analyze, and report on network firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, web security, email security, virtual private network (VPN), security information and event management (SIEM) platforms (e.g., FortiAnalyzer), log monitoring, and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). This includes managing custom threat intelligence feeds and correlation logic within SIEM tool.

•Monitor and restrict access to sensitive, confidential, or other high-security data using tools such as Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Entra ID Conditional Access, and related Microsoft 365 security features.

•Manage vulnerability assessments and assist with securing systems and corresponding applications via hardening, permissions, patching, vulnerability remediation, and upgrades. Responsibilities include interpreting Nessus scan results and coordinating remediation with system owners.

•Serve on the IT Security Team and actively contribute to shared goals and initiatives.

•Support business continuity and disaster recovery planning, including annual updates and testing of the IT Disaster Recovery Plan (ITDRP), coordinating with system owners.

•Research and evaluate emerging IT security trends, tools, solutions and best practices to continuously improve the college's overall security posture and stay ahead of evolving threats.

•Work closely with the Help Desk and IT Security Team to provide customer support, incident response, and corrective actions. Includes training Help Desk staff in the Defender Security portal and basic triage procedures.

•Create technical documentation for systems, policies, and procedures, including internal security processes, phishing response procedures, and vendor security evaluation protocols.

•Consult with the IT Security Team on policy development and maintenance, particularly in alignment with NIST 800-171 and Microsoft best practices. Drive effective and reasonable policies and practices to secure protected and sensitive data and ensure information security and compliance with relevant legislation. Monitor compliance with and contribute to security policies, standards, and procedures.

•Collaborate with the campus community to evaluate impacts of new technologies on the Institution's overall information security. Oversee the vendor security assessment and review process using HECVAT and SOC 2 and compliance tracking tools.

•Maintain and monitor campus-wide information security training efforts. Lead campus-wide cybersecurity training and awareness programs, including KnowBe4 training, phishing simulations, security communications (e.g. digital signage with security tips) and awareness campaigns.

•Contribute to the development, planning, and implementation of departmental long-term strategic goals.

•Provide Mentorship for student employees, including hands-on exposure to real-world cybersecurity tasks.

•Perform related duties as assigned.

•Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

•Minimum of two years of experience in Information Security with demonstrated knowledge of IT risk management in a modern environment is required.

•Familiarity with common enterprise systems, security tools, and best practices in risk mitigation.

•Knowledge in areas including firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPN, remote access, security logging, vulnerability management, security incident response, and penetration testing.

•Preferred qualifications include relevant Information Security Certifications, and experience with NIST 800-171, and HECVAT.

•A demonstrated ability to analyze and respond to security incidents, incident evaluation, and detect patterns in complex security data sets.

•Experience providing analysis and detecting trends in security events, alarms, and information from a large number of devices.

•Experience with endpoint security tools (e.g., Anti-Virus protection, device encryption, device management, patching, EDR).

•Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

•Up-to-date understanding of IT security and compliance legislation, trends, and technologies.

•Proven project management skills with attention to detail, and ability to prioritize effectively

•Ability to work both independently as well as part of a team, with creativity and initiative.

•Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

•High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential or sensitive information.Supervision Required/Given:

This position is supervised by the Director of Campus Network & Security (CNS) under general guidelines and direction. This person must work cooperatively and collaboratively with others.Preferred Qualifications:

After hours and on-call support is required for emergencies and planned maintenance intervals.

The position is primarily sedentary in a climate-controlled office with little exposure to environmental hazards; however, due to the campus environment there will be a need to go from building to building for meetings, and specialized department needs.

The position may require lifting/pushing/carrying objects of at least 40 pounds.
