Sr Systems Engineer
Bedford, MA, US (Onsite) Clearance: Active TS/SCI clearance required
Join the Phalanx Griffon (PG) program, the Air Force's flagship airborne node connecting warfighters to decision-quality data across the DAF BATTLE NETWORK. As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will own the digital thread that transforms brilliant ideas into flight-ready capability for Major Release 2 (FY 25 - 27). You'll drive requirements, architecture, and model-based systems engineering across hardware (Nomad), software (Smith), and operations (Watch) components.
This is a critical role for an experienced systems engineer who thrives on leading complex integration efforts and shaping the future of airborne networking within a secure, agile environment.
What You'll Do:
Architect & Model the System-of-Systems:
Lead the creation and upkeep of the government-owned SysML / CAMEO model, DoDAF views, and interface-control documents (ICDs) that capture Nomad-Smith-Watch interactions with the Digital Infrastructure (DI), SATCOM links, and cross-domain solutions.
Ensure every requirement traces to a verification method and mission thread, supporting CJADC2 and Operational Imperative #2 objectives.
Requirements & Baseline Management:
Elicit, decompose, and manage stakeholder needs in DOORS-NG (or equivalent); chair requirements reviews, delta boards, and configuration-control boards.
Maintain the Technical Baseline and drive change packages through digital workflows, preserving model / document synchronization.
Integration Leadership:
Partner with Integrated Product Team (IPT) leads to translate digital designs into Integration System Integration Laboratory (SIL) builds.
Quickly resolve cross-domain, crypto, power, and data-bus interface issues.
Feed lessons learned back into the model, ensuring the next sprint starts with an accurate baseline.
Verification & Validation Alignment:
Collaborate with Test & Flight-Test teams to develop the Verification Cross-Reference Matrix (VCRM) and ensure early "shift-left" validation of safety, cyber, and performance requirements.
Provide pre-flight technical concurrence for Interim Authorizations To Test (IATTs) and air-worthiness packages.
Risk, Metrics & Reviews:
Maintain the technical risk register, conduct root-cause analyses, and brief burn-down plans to senior Department of the Air Force (DAF) leadership.
Feed schedule, maturity, and performance metrics into the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) and digital dashboards.
Mentorship & Culture:
Coach mid-level engineers on Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) best practices, Agile/SAFe workflows, and DevSecOps culture in a classified environment.
Foster a collaborative, "model-first" mindset across Government and industry teammates. What You'll Bring:
Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
B.S. in Systems, Electrical, Aerospace, Computer Engineering-or a related field-and 15+ years of systems engineering experience on DoD C4ISR, avionics, or open-architecture programs, including requirements management, architecture, and integration. A Master's degree plus at least 12 years of experience will also be considered.
Active TS/SCI clearance.
Proficiency with SysML modeling tools (CAMEO/MagicDraw, Rhapsody, or equivalent) and requirements databases (DOORS, Jama).
Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary design reviews (System Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR)) and managing technical baselines in a digital-engineering environment.
Solid grasp of MIL-STD avionics power, data links (Link-16/22, TTNT, OMS/UCI), SATCOM, Type-1 crypto, and Risk Management Framework (RMF) / Information Assurance (IA) compliance. Desired Skills:
INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) / Expert Systems Engineering Professional (ESEP) or Defense Acquisition University (DAU) Engineering/Systems Engineering Level III certification.
Prior work on ABMS, CJADC2, or other open-architecture airborne networking efforts.
Familiarity with DevSecOps pipelines (Platform One / Iron Bank) and automated model validation (ModelCenter, Cameo Simulation Toolkit).
Experience briefing Senior Executive Service (SES) / General Officer (GO) audiences and shaping acquisition strategy documents (Acquisition Strategy (AS), Systems Engineering Plan (SEP), Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP), Test and Evaluation Master Plan (TEMP)).
