Currently hold or have the ability to obtain a drivers license within 90 days of employment.
Possession of a high school diploma or an equivalent recognized certificate.
Two years experience that includes working as an automotive mechanic; or two years in automotive repair vocational school training; or an equivalent combinations of training and experience.
Strong written and verbal skills and ability to communicate effectively.
Working knowledge of automotive mechanic tools and diagnostic equipment.
Experience tracking vehicle maintenance work using a computer program.
Preferred Qualifications:
Five or more years experience in an auto shop or dealership service center as a mechanic.
Golf Carts or Utility Vehicle diagnosis and repair experience.
Experience working on small engines or diesel equipment.
Automotive technical or vocational training certification, e.g., ASE.
Job Description:
Responsible for basic vehicle maintenance and repair for vehicles belonging to the university fleetJob Duties:
Provide automotive diagnostics, repair, and routine maintenance.
Repair brake and steering systems.
Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic systems.
Repair cooling components and systems including air conditioners and engine cooling.
Perform emissions inspections, safety and similar state-regulated vehicle examinations.
Maintain a clean, safe working environment.
Produce legible and accurate paperwork reflecting work performed.
Handle work-order documentation, parts requisitioning, and inventory duties.
Controls maintenance, repair, replacement, and installation of various automotive components.
Performs skilled work such as engine performance diagnosis, repair and tune-ups; vehicle preventive maintenance servicing; and various other repairs and maintenance of all university vehicles and equipment.
Work within Texas State maintenance management computer system for work orders and vehicle history.
This role requires expertise in powertrain, automotive electrical systems, and gasoline engine repair.
Additional Information to Applicants:
Must obtain a State of Texas Vehicle Safety Inspector License within 120 days from date of hire.
