Juniata College, a nationally ranked liberal arts institution located in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, seeks a Web and Systems Application Developer to join our collaborative and innovative Administrative Information Systems (AIS) team. This role is vital to enhancing the digital infrastructure that supports our students, faculty, and staff.
The successful candidate will lead the design, development, and integration of web applications and enterprise systems, including customizations for the Ellucian Colleague ERP. In addition to backend development, this position will contribute to the College's digital strategy through data visualizations, dashboards, and support for dynamic website content.
Collaboration is key-this position works closely with colleagues across Administrative Information Systems, Network Services, and the Technology Solutions Center. Strong communication and customer service skills are essential to succeed in this role.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead the full-cycle of web application development: requirements gathering, design, implement, document, test, deploy, and maintain.
• Maintain and enhance existing web applications to meet evolving user needs, ensure security, and enhance performance and functionality.
• Develop front-end and back-end components of web services and applications.
• Collaborate with functional offices and AIS team to support customize applications, Ellucian Colleague ERP, and related enterprise systems.
• Create interactive dashboards and data visualizations to support decision making and reporting.
• Evaluate and recommend system solutions, weighing custom development vs. off-the-shelf options.
• Partner with Marketing to support the College's public-facing website through dynamic, accessible, and standards-compliant code.
• Supervise and mentor student developers; support instructional and educational tech projects.
• Design and implement backend architecture including server-side scripting, database, and system integrations.
• Respond promptly to system outages and critical issues, including after-hours support as needed.
• Participate in scheduled on-call support and planned maintenance activities.
• Configure, update, and maintain enterprise-level servers for reliability and performance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Strong knowledge of application development, relational databases, accessibility, privacy, and security best practices.
• Proficient in PHP, SQL, JavaScript (and relevant libraries and frameworks) CSS, and web accessibility standards.
• Flexibility to learn and work in other programming languages as environments continue to evolve.
• Strong understanding of UI/UX principles and WCAG 2.1
• Experience with APIs, system integrations, and responsive web design.
• Familiarity with data visualization tools like Microsoft Power BI preferred.
• Effective project management, planning, and organizational skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Experience with Ellucian Colleague and/or in a higher education setting is a plus.

• This position reports to the Assistant CIO/Director AIS & TSC. Operates with general direction and works collaboratively with faculty and staff across the institution.
