Founded in 1993, Stardock is a global leader in Windows customization software and Video Game publishing and development. As we continue to scale, were seeking a Assistant Controller to lead our accounting and finance operations. Reporting directly into the President of the company, this is a unique opportunity for a hands-on, results-driven professional to join our team and shape the financial foundation of our growing business. This is a salaried, full-time position at our Plymouth, Michigan office.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Assistant Controller will be the most senior accounting and finance professional within the organization, overseeing the full spectrum of accounting and financial reporting responsibilities. Working closely with the President, this individual will play a key role in strategic planning, financial analysis, and operational decision-making. You will be supported by an in-house bookkeeper and will have the opportunity to continue to shape the Accounting and Finance operations as the company looks to really grow the business.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the month-end and year-end close processes
Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements
Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis
Manage banking relationships and coordinate with lenders and financial institutions
Ensure accurate revenue recognition and compliance with GAAP
Serve as the primary liaison with the external CPA firm to coordinate and manage the completion of annual audits and tax filings, ensuring timely delivery of all required documentation and responses
Maintain and improve internal financial controls and accounting procedures
Support corporate governance and compliance, including S-Corp requirements
Liaise with external partners for reporting and due diligence purposes
Oversee and optimize the use of QuickBooks for day-to-day accounting
Build and maintain Excel-based models for financial reporting and analysis
Serve as a strategic advisor to the President on financial matters
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred)
5+ years of accounting experience, preferably with a public accounting background
Strong understanding of GAAP, revenue recognition, and financial reporting
SaaS, Technology or Software industry experience is a plus
Experience working in a privately held, owner managed corporate environment preferred
Proficiency in QuickBooks and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Experience working with or reporting to PE/VC-backed companies is a plus
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment with shifting priorities
The salary for this position ranges from $100,000 to $120,000 annually, depending on your qualifications, experience, and expertise. Stardock is committed to offering a competitive compensation package tailored to the right candidate.
