Job Title: Engineering Technician
Location: Jackson, MI
GENERAL SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Engineering Technician will support engineering and utility projects through design coordination, field support, product and process research, and standards management. This role collaborates closely with other departments and supports ongoing system and process improvements. The Engineering Technician will also assist with vendor coordination, document control, and special projects under the guidance of senior engineering staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Support engineering design, plans, inspections, specifications, system planning, and data collection
Coordinate and create purchase requisitions for engineering-related activities
Track engineering service invoices and support forecasting of associated costs
Conduct field visits and collaborate with field operations to ensure effective implementation of engineering designs
Participate in on-the-job training and development via learning modules, standards reviews, and mentorship by senior engineers
Maintain and update engineering standards and procedures; create documentation as needed
Read and interpret utility industry standards, drawings, and technical data sheets
Meet with third-party vendors, contractors, and engineering firms to collect feedback and maintain alignment with current standards
Support the configuration and maintenance of infrastructure systems, including specialized tools and reports
Assist in environmental review processes, surveying, and easement coordination
Perform construction observation and field investigations to support project delivery

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
CAD Software Proficiency: Strong ability to create, modify, and interpret technical drawings
MS Windows & Office Suite: Broad knowledge and daily working proficiency
Utility Operations: Basic understanding of systems and operational procedures
Problem Solving: Ability to analyze and resolve complex problems using existing computer-based tools
Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication for technical and non-technical audiences
Technical Writing: Ability to produce clear and accurate reports and documentation
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Associate’s Degree in Engineering Technology, Utility Engineering, or related field (Bachelor’s Degree preferred)
Relevant certifications in CAD or engineering software tools are a plus
Experience:
1–3 years of experience in a technical, engineering, or utility environment preferred
Experience with CAD and engineering project coordination required
