We are currently seeking a team member to join our Quality department to support Converting Operations and Paper Manufacturing. This role is a key player in our growth journey. This position will serve as a pivotal member of the mill’s quality team, taking on the testing and recording keeping responsibilities under the leadership of a Quality Manager. SCOPE:
Perform duties to test raw materials, finished products, packaging & competitor products to determine conformance to material specifications. Continuously supports Sofidel’s Employee Personal Practice Policy.
Maintain safe work area and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules keeping work area in a clean and orderly condition.
Support Sofidel America’s Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP to promote a safe, sanitary and hygienically sound workplace.
Work from approved quality standards, written and verbal orders.
Test Raw materials against established specifications.
Test Finished product against established specifications.
Report results of raw material and finished product testing to relevant personnel.
Release or reject raw materials based on specified requirements.
Operate the quality testing equipment needed to perform the job.
Enter results of all test into SAP and other established data collection software.
Assist with training new quality technicians, and employees to recognize Quality issues and how to report them. Assist with training new quality technicians in the proper operation of testing equipment and accepted quality assurance techniques.
Process Non-conforming raw materials and finished product and communicate to relevant personnel according to established procedures.
Test competitor product according to established procedures and data entry into SAP software.
Undertake routine internal calibration activities where required.
Train on and use all new Lab equipment and testing methods.
Inspect visually all aspects of packaging to ensure Quality standard are maintained.
Serve as a representative of the Quality Team, showing others the importance of Quality while setting a professional example for others.
Work in and promote a true Team environment where Production, Quality, Sales, Logistics and Customer service work for the common good of the Customer.
Operate the quality testing equipment needed to perform the job. Maintain all current specifications of finished products and raw materials within the lab and at each machine.
Compare product testing results with customer specifications to determine conformance.
Communicate specifications, product information, product changes and Quality issues to all Operators, Office Employees and Helpers on their shift.
OTHER DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:
Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements. Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional material and supplies.
Participate in a variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Perform the duties of the Quality Manager in their absence, as required.
Covering colleague absence/vacation on an overtime basis.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Employee will use computer and peripherals, standard and customized software applications and tools, and usual office equipment.
Education/ Experience:
High School Graduate or general education degree (GED). Possess basic computer skills.
Language Ability:
English must be fluently spoken. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and quality and procedure manuals.
Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required when in the plant and warehouse areas. PPE will include safety shoes, eye and ear protection, reflective vests and hairnets or hats along with any other necessary protection. Temperatures in the plant/warehouse can range a great deal from season to season. The employee will be exposed to considerable paper dust and employees will also be exposed to noise levels that will require hearing protection.
