Job Summary:
The Senior Electron Microscopy Specialist reports directly to the Campus Microscopy and Imaging Facility (CMIF) Director and is responsible for leading all aspects of the electron microscopy (EM) program within the facility. This position oversees the daily operations of the EM instrumentation and services, including sample preparation, training, protocol development, and equipment maintenance. The Senior EM Specialist works closely with researchers to facilitate a broad range of scientific projects, develops and refines EM methods, ensures instrument performance and reliability, and contributes to the overall strategic growth of the EM capabilities within the CMIF. The role includes supervising technical operations, facilitating collaborations, managing supplies and maintenance agreements, and supporting grant proposals and outreach efforts.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a physical or biological science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
4 years of relevant experience.
Specialized training in the use of TEM and SEM instruments required; experience with processing biological samples for TEM and SEM
Training and teaching experience required.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with a diverse group of people.
Desired Qualifications:
Doctoral Degree in physical or biological science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
4-8 years of relevant experience.
Experience with processing a wide variety of biological samples for TEM and SEM, including ultramicrotomy.
Experience in customer service, or customer-facing position, and working with a diverse group of people.
Experience troubleshooting TEM and SEM sample preparation, including immunogold labeling, cryo-ultramicrotomy and Tokuyasu technique, and correlated light and electron microscopy (CLEM) projects.

Compensation:
The pay range for this job profile is $75,700.00 - $98,900.00. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on multiple factors, including internal equity, unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications.
