The Data Science role contributes to the overall success of the Fraud Management Group Globally ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed/delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensure all activities conducted are within compliance of governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
Accountabilities
Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
Collaborate with stakeholders including Operations, Analytics and Data Science partners, as well as Scotia Digital and IT&S partners to identify opportunities and drive business value in reducing fraud risks by leveraging Data Science
Leverage distributed computing tools (e.g. Beam, BigQuery, Hive, Spark) for analysis, data mining and modeling
Collaborate with technology / engineering, analytics, and operational teams to deploy fraud detection and prevention models and algorithms in production across different products and channels
Create and apply model validation strategies to measure model effectiveness, conduct A/B testing, and make ongoing enhancements
Prepare detailed documentation to outline data sources, models and algorithms used and developed
Present results to business line stakeholders and help implement real data-driven changes
Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be incorporate into in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education / Experience / Other Information
Experience with machine learning, statistical techniques, as well as model testing and validation
Experience cleaning, transforming and visualizing large data sets working with various data formats (e.g. unstructured logs, XML, JSON, flat files, audio, image)
Solid SQL skills for querying relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, DB2, MySQL)
Programming skills in Python, Java or Scala
Hands-on experience with Big Data ecosystem tools (e.g., Beam, BigQuery, Hive, Spark) preferred
Experience with UNIX tools and shell scripting preferred
Expertise with Docker or Kubernetes is an asset
Experience with various services on Google Cloud Platform is an asset
Experience deploying models into productions as streaming application, Rest APIs, batch jobs or dashboards is an asset
Experience with Deep Learning architectures like RNNs and CNNs is highly desirable
Experience using and implementing visualization tools is an asset
Knowledge of industry trends regarding fraud and experience in fraud detection and prevention is an asset
Experience working with cross-functional team in an Agile environment is an asset
Bilingual English/Spanish language skills (B2 English level)
Must to have:
8+ years of software engineering industry experience
Experience building, architecting, designing, and implementing highly distributed global based systems. Experience in network infrastructure, security, data, or application development.
Must be a leader with excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills to build consensus and obtain co-operation from development teams and technology engineering leaders.
Disciplined in development methodology and familiar with software development technologies and concepts.
Practical experience with systems design and specification for large scale applications.
Knowledge of object-oriented programming and other programming paradigms
Knowledge and experience using software design patterns
Knowledge of architectural styles
Experience with defining and governing the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
Experience designing and implementing APIs
Proficiency in English at a minimum of B2 level
Proficiency in one of the following: JS-TS React, Java, Kotlin, Node, Python, Native Applications, or equivalent.
B1 level of English.
Soft sklills:
Expert analytical and conceptual thinking skills, using creativity and attention to detail to develop testing solutions that help proactively uncover issues, find bugs and assess product with the end user in mind.
Strategic thinking ability enabling the selection of optimal testing solutions (smart vs mass testing)
The individual requires superior oral and written communication skills and proven ability to: make presentations to varied groups; deal with all levels of line management up to the Executive Vice-President (individually or in committee); and conveying clear and compelling project artifacts.
Openness to ideas, willingness to take on any task or role, focus on the customer, and a constant view of the big picture.
Preferable:
Experience in modernizing legacy systems or similar transformational initiatives
Experience with structured architectural practices, hybrid cloud deployments, and the planning and execution of on-premises to cloud migration.
Working Conditions
Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.
When required, non-standard office working hours for scheduled implementations or while on rotational 24x7 on-call support.
