Job Description
As our first Staff Data Scientist, you'll be building a new branch of our business and product suite. You'll play a critical role in shaping the future of AI-driven features across our platform, defining the strategy, tools, and infrastructure that will power intelligent systems throughout our AWS-based ecosystem. Reporting directly to the CTO, you'll collaborate closely with engineers, analysts, and product leaders to build scalable, production-ready AI solutions that transform how we operate and deliver value.
This position offers a base salary of $190,000 and includes company equity.
The Day-to-Day
You'll be at the forefront of establishing our AI and data science capabilities, blending scientific thinking with engineering execution. This includes (but is not limited to):
Architect, build, and deploy ML and AI models—from classical ML (SVMs, Random Forests, Decision Trees) to advanced deep learning techniques (Transformers, CNNs, RNNs).
Integrate LLM-powered agents and prompt engineering techniques into user-facing products and internal tools.
Partner with cross-functional teams to identify high-impact opportunities for AI and data science across the business.
Analyze structured and unstructured data using SQL, Python, statistics, and advanced mathematical techniques to extract insights and drive action.
Evaluate and implement state-of-the-art AI tools and frameworks (e.g., LangChain, Hugging Face, OpenAI) and stay current on emerging trends in LLMs, prompt engineering, and ML Ops.
Build secure, scalable, and maintainable AI systems aligned with best practices in software and data engineering.
Lead research and prototyping initiatives to explore innovative AI applications for the business.
Write clean, efficient, testable code while upholding modern engineering standards.
To Be Successful
Do these things sound like you? Yes? Good — you're well on your way to being a successful Staff Data Scientist with us!
You are passionate about applying AI in real-world settings—turning research and theory into impactful, scalable systems.
You have 8+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or AI engineering.
You have a proven ability to design, train, and deploy Deep Learning and Transformer models using PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar tools.
You possess a strong background in traditional machine learning models and statistical analysis with tools like Scikit-Learn.
You have hands-on experience designing and integrating LLM-based agents and working with modern foundation models (e.g., GPT, Claude, Gemini).
You are proficient in Python and SQL, with a solid foundation in math, statistics, and computer science.
You are skilled in choosing the right tools and building robust pipelines using cloud services—preferably within AWS.
You have an engineering-focused mindset—you write production-grade code with scalability, testing, and security in mind.
You are a strong communicator, able to translate complex AI concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences.
You are legally authorized to work permanently in the US without employer sponsorship.
And you have a bachelor's degree in computer science, math, engineering, or a related field (or something totally different—you just have to be great at what you do!).
To Thrive
We're an entrepreneurial, creative, and passionate group — and if these things sound like you, you won't just fit in. You'll thrive with us.
You're a builder and a pioneer—comfortable navigating ambiguity, charting a path forward, and laying a foundation for others.
You're excited by the opportunity to influence technology choices and help define what "AI" means for our company and products.
You've worked in an Agile environment and can lead as well as collaborate.
You're familiar with CI/CD pipelines and ML Ops tools (e.g., MLflow, SageMaker, Weights & Biases).
You have experience using AWS managed services, particularly for AI and data pipelines.
You're excited to explore and apply the latest breakthroughs in AI, whether academic or open source.
You're competitive, but also a team player who is fun, energetic, and super coachable.
You're no stranger to playing hard and working harder while treating others with respect and dignity.
Our Advantage
If you're asking yourself "what are the perks of working with us?" Don't worry. We've got you covered.
We are a Best Places to Work recipient — because we understand the meaning of work hard, play hard!
You'll get some skin in the game with employee equity.
We stand behind and celebrate our core values.
There's transparent communication from the top down.
You'll have a collaborative, smart, and forward-thinking team to share ideas with.
You'll have a direct, meaningful impact as we scale.
You'll experience a culture filled with opportunities to connect in-person and virtually.
We have a casual dress code.
We offer hybrid and remote work schedules.
And we've got you covered in all the most important benefits: health, 401k match, wellness, disability, employee discounts, time away — and more!
Our Commitment to You
Be yourself. Always.
We want you to apply even if you do not meet every requirement. We are committed to building an inclusive, varied culture that welcomes, promotes, supports, and celebrates the diverse backgrounds of our employees. It is what drives innovation, ignites creativity, and ultimately gives us a competitive advantage.
We want you to be you — because how boring would life be if we were all the same?
About Us
Create Membership Plans that Patients and Providers Love
As everyone knows, dental health is critical to overall health. Unfortunately, dental insurance is too complicated, too confusing, and too expensive for dentists and patients alike. As a result, 40% of US consumers do not have dental coverage, 50% of US consumers do not visit a dentist each year, and dentists continue to struggle with practice success while managing complicated insurance plans with low reimbursement fees, coverage limits and claims denials.
Company Overview
Our mission is to make professional oral care accessible to everyone with a membership model that patients and providers love.
We are doing something about this. We connect dentists directly with patients to eliminate the inefficiency, cost, and hassle of workarounds. Using our cloud-based platform, dentists easily design, implement, and grow a successful membership plan with their own dental care plans, offering them directly to patients. The result is affordable, comprehensive dental coverage that works for dental practices and enables patients to get the professional oral care they need.
As the established leaders in the dental membership space, Kleer and Membersy support a combined footprint of over 20,000 dentists and millions of patients across all 50 states, and cover the entire spectrum of dental practices, from independent solo practices to the largest DSOs in the country.
Kleer and Membersy came together in 2024 to provide an unmatched dental membership solution and experience. Leveraging their complementary strengths, industry expertise, and scale, Kleer and Membersy will create significant value for DSOs, independent dental practices, and their patients by expanding access to care for all uninsured and underinsured Americans, including more than 76 million adults without dental insurance.
