Security/Fire Design Engineer

Barcom carries a large line of Fire Alarm, Intrusion Alarm, Access Control and Video Surveillance lines. Experience with Avigilon, Gallagher, S2, March Networks, Hanwha, Axis, Aiphone, Secure Care, EST, Notifier, Bosch, Honeywell, exaqVision, Milestone, Salient, Ubiquity, and DMP would be top of class. Barcom Security is seeking a skilled Fire Alarm/Low-Voltage Design Engineer to join our team. In this role you will design and generate low voltage shop drawings utilizing CAD and other computer aided programs.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Prepare technical submittals, RFI's, closeout documents, and quotes for Sales Consultants.
· The design and/or drafting of fire life safety and other low voltage shop drawings for commercial, multi-family, industrial, and government buildings.
· Work closely with Sales Consultants to complete accurate designs and prepare submittals in a timely and professional manner.
· Manage and update electronic and physical job folders, equipment manuals, technical data sheets, brochures, and templates.
· Resolve design problems through research of multiple alternatives.
· Coordinate with code officials to arrange for building permits, discuss code issues, and resolve design issues.
· Coordinate designs with other trades and building owners as needed to create a complete design.
· Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, schematics, and operational product manuals.
· Identify out of scope work, design flaws by review of the contract documents, proposals, plans, and specifications provided.
· Identify and assist with suggested solutions for an efficient design.
· Assist with all questions and concerns about the design in a timely and professional manner.
· Effectively communicate project status to management.
· Perform take-offs (counts) on plans.
· Preform appropriate calculations as part of system design
· Complete all appropriate company paperwork as required.
· Put together a Bill of Materials and quotes for Sales Consultants in CRM
· Travel up to 25% of the time
Job Skills:
Strong computer skills, including a solid background in AutoCAD, is a requirement.
Familiar with NFPA 72, IBC, IEC, and City Municipal Codes as it pertains to Fire Alarm Systems
Basic Qualifications:
· NICET II (NICET III or NICET IV preferred).
Experience with fire alarm control panels from major manufacturers (e.g., Notifier, Edwards, Potter, etc.)
Familiarity with low-voltage or integrated life safety systems.
· Computer proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Excel.
· Must have excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
· Must be self-motivated, have strong organizational skills, a multi-tasker, reliable, self-determined and have excellent follow-up skills.
· Possess the ability to take the initiative to get a project completed.
· Applicants must meet requirements in relation to background and driving record.
