Certification: Special Education Supervisor Endorsement, Administration Cert.
Work Year: 52 weeks
Goal: The Special Services Coordinator will work closely with The Director of Special Services, District Cabinet members and school administrators to ensure that all students with special needs are educated in the least restrictive environment, with the most appropriate resources, in accordance with the law.
Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree or higher in a field of special education.
• Fully approved as a Supervisor of Special Education by the Michigan Department of Education
• Administrators’ Certificate or able obtain within 1 year.
• Minimum of 5 years of successful experience in special education.
• 2 years of special education leadership experience.
• Strong understanding of special education law, policy, and procedural compliance.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse teams, families and community stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities:
• Help to ensure Special Education law and Section 504 of the ADA adherence in all buildings.
• Provide direct support to building teams regarding special education compliance, service delivery, instructional practices, and student programming.
• Monitor IEP development, implementation, and evaluation for compliance and quality.
• Supervise and evaluate special education staff, including itinerant service providers and classroom-based staff, as assigned.
• Collaborate with building administrators and staff to support inclusion and student success.
• Participate in student-specific meetings (IEPs, METs, MDRs) as needed.
• Interpret and implement changes to IDEA, MARSE, and Section 504 guidelines.
• Support mediation, due process, and complaint resolution processes.
• Maintain accurate records and prepare required state and federal reports.
• Work with teams to ensure that discipline follows state laws and district policies.
• Work with administrators and staff, including paraprofessionals, to provide professional development on best practices for supporting students with IEPs in the least restrictive environment.
• Other duties as assigned by Director of Special Services.
