Job Description
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Building Engineer to support the ongoing maintenance and operations of our facility. This role involves assisting with the inspection, maintenance, and repair of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical components, while supporting tenant service requests and helping ensure the property remains in optimal working condition. Key Responsibilities:
Building Maintenance & Operations:
Assist in the inspection and maintenance of mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
Support daily building operations, including troubleshooting and addressing maintenance issues as they arise.
Perform general repairs and upkeep to ensure building systems and common areas remain in good condition.
Coordinate and follow up on work orders and service requests, working with vendors or contractors when necessary.
Assist with preventive maintenance routines and regular inspections.
Monitor building conditions and report issues requiring further attention.
Support janitorial oversight to ensure cleanliness standards are consistently met.
Assist in inventorying and organizing maintenance supplies and tools.
Take directions from Building Engineers, Property Managers, and the Director of Engineering.
Participate in continuing education, training, and safety certifications as required to maintain skill proficiency.
Tenant Assistance:
Respond to tenant maintenance requests in a timely and courteous manner.
Communicate clearly with tenants regarding the status and timing of work being performed.
Provide hands-on support for resolving minor issues or coordinating more complex repairs.
Reporting and Documentation:
Keep detailed logs of safety inspections, incidents, maintenance work, and any other relevant activities.
Document completed work and update management on ongoing issues.
Support administrative tasks related to vendor coordination, inspections, and maintenance records.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school or technical training a plus.
Prior experience in a building operations or maintenance role preferred.
Familiarity with building systems such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and lighting preferred but not required.
Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Willingness to learn and participate in continued training and development.
Reliable and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to walk the property and climb stairs as needed.
Capable of lifting, pushing, or pulling equipment or supplies up to 50 lbs.
Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
