Job Summary:

The Tool Designer I at Mate Precision Technologies plays a key role in designing custom tooling and workholding solutions that meet specific customer application requirements. Working closely with Application Specialists and Manufacturing teams, this position transforms concepts and requirements into precise 3D models and detailed engineering drawings. The Tool Designer I contributes to continuous improvement efforts and ensures high-quality, manufacturable solutions that align with Mate’s commitment to customer satisfaction. This position reports to Mate Precision Technologies' headquarters five days a week (Monday-Friday) in Anoka, MN.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Design custom tooling and work holding solutions by applying standard product parameters or developing innovative, non-standard designs based on customer specifications.

Create clear, accurate, and complete 2D/3D drawings using SolidWorks to support manufacturing and programming needs.

Ensure that all documentation is complete, accurate, and aligned with Mate’s custom design standards.

Collaborate with Manufacturing to address challenges, resolve design issues, and support production processes.

Participate in prototype testing using shop equipment (e.g., press brake, shear) to validate tool designs and confirm performance against customer expectations.

Maintain high productivity and quality standards in all design work.

Engage in continuous learning to stay current with design tools, software, and best practices.

Demonstrate strong collaboration by being open-minded, responsive, and supportive of team goals.

Exhibit professional integrity, reliability, and accountability in all responsibilities.

Foster a respectful workplace by actively listening, encouraging idea-sharing, and showing courtesy in all interactions.

Perform other related duties as assigned.Requirements:

Qualifications:

A certificate or Associate's Degree in drafting, engineering technology, or a related field, or a high school diploma plus equivalent work experience, is required.

A minimum of 1-3 years of work experience in a design engineering manufacturing environment is required.

The ability to work on-site at Mate Precision Technologies’ headquarters in Anoka, Minnesota, five days per week (Monday through Friday) is required.

Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling and drafting.

Basic knowledge of mechanical design principles, sheet metal basics, and workholding concepts.

Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents.

Problem-solving skills to address design challenges.

Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms.

Pay Range: $34.24 - $37.36/hour
