GENERAL DESCRIPTION
A person in this position responds to emergency medical calls for service including fires, accidents and other emergencies.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Operates an emergency vehicle to and from the scene of an emergency; Assists paramedics and other emergency medical personnel in providing emergency medical and health care; Operates and monitors communications equipment to maintain contact with dispatchers; Provides emergency medical care to the ill and injured within the scope of an Emergency Medical Technician; Transports patients to hospitals or other emergency care facilities; Assists receiving facility to obtain and record patients vital statistics and circumstances of emergency; Prepares reports for billing and other record keeping purposes; Participates in training, public education, and station/equipment maintenance; Performs other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Good knowledge of basic life support techniques and procedures; ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing; ability to safely and effectively operate an emergency vehicle; ability to handle a high volume of emergency calls with tact and good judgment; willingness to work any shift assignment including weekends, holidays, overtime; ability to rapidly evaluate and manage a variety of emergency situations; ability to assimilate and apply large amounts of information for medical related activities; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other agencies and the general public; good physical agility and stamina to do prolonged and arduous work under adverse conditions.
Minimum Qualifications: Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Applicants must have reached their 18th birthday and be a Connecticut or National Registry Certified Emergency Medical Technician with CPR Certification.
Special Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid State of Connecticut motor vehicle operator's license.
