Job Summary:
The Database Administrator plays a crucial role in supporting and optimizing our websites and applications. This position focuses on configuring, implementing, and maintaining MS SQL Server database systems to ensure high performance and reliability. This role thrives in a dynamic environment and is passionate about delivering excellent customer service. Key Responsibilities:
Administer large SQL Server database environments with hundreds of databases per environment.
Monitor and maintain production databases to ensure high availability, optimal performance, and security.
Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve database performance issues using diagnostic tools and tuning techniques.
Configure database monitoring software to optimize alerts and reduce the need for manual monitoring.
Design and implement performance baselines and proactively manage database resources.
Automate database administration tasks by creating, scheduling, and maintaining SQL jobs.
Develop and maintain T-SQL stored procedures, scripts, and utilities for data management and performance optimization.
Document infrastructure, configurations, processes, and database administration procedures.
Collaborate with Infrastructure and Software Engineer teams to support hardware, storage, networking, and cloud integration needs.
Support disaster recovery planning and execution, including backup/restore strategies and high availability configurations.
Configure and administer Azure Workspaces (e.g., Azure Synapse, Azure Machine Learning, or other workspace-enabled services) used in conjunction with ADLS, including access controls, integration settings, and resource management.
Support data pipelines and integration workflows that leverage Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS) for large-scale storage and processing.
Assist with cloud migration efforts and support hybrid on-prem/Azure environments.
Provide after-hours support on an as-needed basis.
Qualifications:
Experience:
5+ years of experience in SQL Server 2012 and above administration.
5+ years of experience troubleshooting, tuning, and resolving database performance issues.
Extensive experience in diagnosing and resolving performance issues using tools such as SQL Profiler, Extended Events, DMVs, and Query Store.
Strong experience in database backup/recovery, failover, and disaster recovery models.
Deep understanding of indexing, query optimization, and SQL Server internals.
Proficiency in writing and optimizing T-SQL.
Familiarity with Azure Data Factory, Azure Monitor, and related cloud-native data services.
Experience integrating on-prem SQL Server environments with Azure cloud storage and compute.
Solid interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Self-starter with the ability to work independently and handle tasks with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related specialty (or equivalent work experience).
Microsoft SQL Server certification is a plus.
Global mindset with the ability to support growth initiatives in international markets.
