A vacancy will exist for the 2025-2026 school year for an LTS Elementary Reading Specialist within the Norristown Area School District at Whitehall Elementary School. This position is expected to last until early January, 2026.
* Reading Specialist additional stipend: $3,500
The Reading Specialist shall be responsible for assisting teachers in helping students develop reading skills that will maximize their potential to grow into mature, capable and responsible adults. They will also be responsible to pull small groups of students as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
PA Reading Specialists certification required
(3) years of teaching experience required
Masters degree preferred
Current Act 34, Act 151 and FBI Fingerprint clearances
Bilingual in Spanish Preferred
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assist classroom teachers, Instructional Support Teachers, and administrative staff in the coordination of activities related to the regular developmental reading program
Assist the classroom teachers and administrators in developing procedures to place individual students in reading groups
Familiarize classroom teachers with grade level reading skills/strategies
Recommend appropriate reading materials for classroom teaching
Conduct classroom visitations and provide non-evaluative feedback to teachers regarding reading instruction
Keep the staff abreast of current research, literature, and instructional materials in the field of reading
Assist in the training and evaluation of the reading program
Make suggestions and/or recommendations for improving the district-wide reading program
Assist in the coordination and revision of the District reading curriculum
Advise the administration as to the reading professional development needs of teachers
Facilitate professional development as requested
Provide input regarding the budgetary needs for reading
Monitor the maintenance of the reading assessments of students
Advise school-based SAP teams when so requested
As appropriate, assist with the identification of all eligible Title I students with the reading specialists and offer assistance in the procedures involved with the administration, the scoring, the recording, and the interpretation of test data
Act as a resource person for classroom teachers, parents, administrators, and instructional support teachers
Be familiar with and follow the federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines as they pertain to the Title I Program
Strives to maintain and improve professional competence
Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Teaching and Learning
