Position Description
The Town of Marana is seeking a Security Officer to work in the Town of Marana Municipal Court. This is a full-time position that provides security services in and around the courthouse and municipal complex campus. Although this position does not have arrest powers, the incumbent must have the skill and ability to use firearms and restraint techniques.
The Town offers a competitive benefits package:
Normal Work Hours: 9:00 am – 7:00 pm (four 10-hour days M-F)
Expected Hiring Range: $19.12/hour - $23.42/hour
Placement within the expected hiring range is dependent on direct experience, internal equity and/or budget
Salary Range: $19.12/hour – $27.73/hour
Examples of Duties
Provides armed security in court building, Town facilities, and throughout municipal complex campus; provides security escorts, detains persons in violation of court orders or persons attempting to commit unauthorized or criminal acts; operates and monitors various security equipment; performs inspections of persons and property.
Follows judge’s orders; assists the courtroom clerk; monitors jury panel deliberations.
Provides customer service to court and Town patrons; enforces rules and maintains order; transports cash deposits; sorts and delivers mail; collects citations and delivers warrants.
Keeps statistical records of dangerous or unlawful items brought to court; prepares reports on all security incidents; locks and unlocks courtroom and building entrances.
Minimum Qualifications
Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature that is acquired through six months of training past the high school equivalency. Community college, vocational, or technical schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
Over three years of experience in a court security setting or in positions such as a police officer, armed security guard or corrections officer.
Must have possession of or be able to obtain a concealed weapons permit in the State of Arizona within 6 months of hire.
Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance background check and a drug test.
Must pass an initial firearms qualification within 60 days of hire and on a semi-annual basis.
Ability to pass both the Town of Marana background check and a motor vehicle records check
Pre-employment psychological evaluation required; complete the Court Security Officer Academy within 90 days of the date of hire; obtain 16 COJET credits annually; maintain Arizona Concealed Weapons Permit (CCW); demonstrate firearms proficiency annually.
Must be able to perform the required training and job duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
