The Ohio State University at Marion is seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Lab Demonstrator to support science instruction across multiple disciplines, with an emphasis on biology and chemistry. This vital role ensures our laboratory spaces are prepared, safe, and effectively equipped to provide exceptional hands-on learning experiences for students.

As the Lab Demonstrator, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and coordination of laboratory materials, equipment, and environments for teaching and outreach. You’ll play a key role in preparing labs, maintaining inventories, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards across the science programs at Ohio State Marion.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare, set up, and clean instructional labs across multiple disciplines (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Geology), with a primary focus on biology and chemistry.

Mix chemical solutions; prepare microbiology mediums, petri dishes, and plates using sterile techniques.

Wash laboratory glassware, maintain equipment, and safely store all materials.

Identify and preserve biological samples; prepare and maintain microscopy slides.

Prepare materials and specimens for dissections and laboratory examinations.

Manage and care for live animals, plants, and microbiological collections.

Promote and enforce lab safety standards, including the proper disposal, recycling, and storage of materials.

Maintain lab inventory and manage the purchase of laboratory supplies and equipment.

Oversee and coordinate the laboratory schedule and ensure timely lab setups.

Support outreach and youth education programs with similar attention to detail.

Assist with tallgrass prairie coordination and related scientific initiatives.

Additional Information:

Required Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Education (with a concentration in Life and Natural Sciences), or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Candidates must possess strong oral and written communication skills, excellent organizational abilities, and attention to detail. The ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines is essential. Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures is required, and experience in plant and animal care is preferred.

The target salary range for this position is $22.93 - $29.95/hour.
