Job Description

Assist Lab Manager to serve patients by providing medical laboratory diagnostic and therapeutic information, products, and services. Provide oversight for laboratory staff in the absence of the Laboratory Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Lead Lab Technician performs the following duties as assigned.

Provides medical laboratory diagnostic and therapeutic information, products, and services by establishing specimen preparation procedures; developing and implementing analytical procedures; evaluating laboratory information; consulting with pathologists; reporting results according to protocols mandated by the hospital and public health department.

Assist Lab Manager in maintaining medical laboratory equipment performance by modeling and communicating established quality standards; developed operations, quality, and troubleshooting procedures; ensuring staff compliance; certifying instrument performance; arranging equipment replacement, service, and repair.

Maintains medical laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.

Maintains medical laboratory productivity by monitoring workload of functional areas; identifying peak and slack periods; making operational or staffing adjustment.

Assist Laboratory Manager in maintaining medical laboratory information system by identifying information needs and problems; recommending improvements; establishing priorities; testing; writing user manuals; training employees; maintaining security and confidentiality.

Assist in the implementations of new programs, tests, methods, instrumentation, and procedures by investigating alternatives; preparing proposals; developing and performing parallel testing; monitoring progress.

Assist Laboratory Manager to maintain medical laboratory staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.

Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; and establishing personal networks.

Complies with state and professional continuing education licensure requirements by providing in-service programs; monitoring outcomes.

Bills for services by completing requests for service; monitoring billed units; providing the billing office with service codes.

Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Ability to document alpha and numeric values to conform to lab standards.

Use logical thinking and personal judgement to perform a variety of clinical and office tasks that require special skills and knowledge.

Follow instructions without close supervision.

Speak and write clearly and accurately.

Plan your own work and sometimes the work of others.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily.

Ability to use office equipment including but not limited to computers, fax machines, telephones and copiers.

Credentials and Experience

Required

Phlebotomy certification required (CPT) within 90 days of job offer acceptance.

Required completion of a phlebotomy training course.

High school graduate preferred, OR, an equivalent level of education and experience.

Experience in field preferred.

Monday - Friday shift will rotate weekly from either 7:30AM - 4:30PM or 8:30AM - 5:30PM

and rotating Saturdays in the Walk-in Clinic from 7:45AM - 12:00PM
