We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Controller to join our team in Bethesda, Maryland, for a long-term contract position within the non-profit sector. This role offers an exciting opportunity to oversee financial operations while ensuring compliance with industry standards. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of expertise in accounting processes and systems.

Responsibilities:

• Manage and oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable and accounts receivable.

• Lead month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.

• Coordinate and prepare for annual external audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

• Develop and monitor budgets, providing insights and recommendations to improve financial performance.

• Conduct internal audits to identify discrepancies and implement corrective actions.

• Utilize Sage Intacct and bill.com to streamline financial workflows and enhance efficiency.

• Prepare detailed financial reports and statements for internal and external stakeholders.

• Collaborate with leadership to implement cost-saving measures and financial strategies.

• Ensure adherence to non-profit accounting standards and best practices.

• Provide guidance and training to less experienced accounting staff to support skill development.

• Proven experience in accounting and financial management, specifically in an Accounting Manager or Controller role.

• Strong knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions.

• Expertise in month-end and year-end closings, including audit preparation.

• Familiarity with Sage Intacct and bill.com software is required.

• Degree in Accounting required; CPA preferred.

• Ability to conduct audits and ensure compliance with non-profit accounting standards.

• Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.

• Strong communication and leadership abilities to effectively guide teams and collaborate with stakeholders.
