JOB SUMMARY:
The Weld Programmer is responsible for programming robotic and automated welding systems to ensure efficient, high-quality, and safe welding operations in the manufacturing environment. The weld programmer monitors the performance of welding robots, and ensures the welding processes align with product specifications and industry standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop, write, and optimize welding programs for robotic welding systems and automated equipment.
Program robotic arms and welding equipment to execute specific weld paths, speeds, and sequences based on engineering drawings and welding specifications.
Adjust programs to accommodate new products, materials, or changes in production schedules.
Analyze welding processes and optimize parameters to improve weld quality, reduce defects, and maximize efficiency.
Analyze defects in welds and adjust the program or settings to correct issues such as poor penetration, undercuts, porosity, or spatter.
Assist in the development of welding procedure specifications (WPS) and ensure that the programming aligns with industry standards and codes.
Fine-tune programs and conduct trials to evaluate the quality and accuracy of welds.
Back up and document all welding programs, settings, and parameters for traceability and reference.
Monitor robotic welding systems for adherence to safety protocols and assist with maintaining a safe working environment.
Work with teams to implement lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives in welding operations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
A high school diploma or equivalent
2-5 years or more of experience in welding, with a focus on robotic welding systems or automation programming
Experience with welding machines, robotic systems and CNC systems
Skills:
Strong understanding of robotic programming, welding processes, and welding parameters
Proficiency in robotic programming software
High attention to detail to ensure precise welding parameters and high-quality welds
Familiarity with industry codes and standards for welding to ensure compliance
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk, talk and/or hear, and/or use hands to finger, handle, touch objects, tools and controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
