Montgomery Parks seeks a graduate or undergraduate level GIS Intern in the Architecture and Special Projects section of the Park Development (PDD) Division to assist in the collection, attribution, curating and expansion of our various data layers.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Park Development Division Intern will be provided the opportunity to assist in the completion of the Park Utility GIS layer and mapping of other critical infrastructure for purposes of recordation, maintenance, and inspection, under the supervision of the Architecture and Special Projects Section staff.

Examples of Important Duties
The successful candidate will support the Architecture and Special Projects programs described in the above Job Description and is expected to:
Research various locations and web platforms for detailed information about existing utilities to complete asset attribution in our utility layer.
Read engineering documents to gain knowledge about existing and proposed utilities.
Coordinate with Park Managers, surveyors, facilities management, and accessibility team.
Use GPS and mobile applications in the field to map utilities, retaining walls and other assets as necessary.
Learn about accessibility and required processes for appropriate assets.
Create spreadsheets for asset integration into Parks asset management system.
Work with AutoCAD, GIS, ArcGIS Online applications, Word, Excel and other office software to complete tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
Previous experience or knowledge of GIS data and asset collection, analysis, and manipulation.
Ability to complete tasks both independently under minimal supervision and as part of a team, paying attention to details, and working within design guidelines and deadlines.
Working knowledge of ArcGIS Pro 3.0 or ArcMap 10.6 and AutoCAD. Familiarity with GNSS/GPS data collection systems.
General understanding of built environment and engineering.
Ability to use basic tools (measuring tape/wheel).
Ability to write and/or convey clear and concise work progress reports and email correspondence.
General computer skills and advanced proficiency using Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel, required.
Supplemental Information
Position will be filled at either the undergraduate (Intern I, pay rate $17-19/hr.) or graduate (Intern II, pay rate $19-21/hr.) level, dependent upon education and experience.
Be able to work under arduous field conditions to include walking significant distances.
Willingness to commit to a pre-arranged schedule up to 250 hours over the course of 10 weeks.
Minimum age: 18 years old.A criminal background investigation will be completed prior to hire.
May be subject to medical, drug and alcohol testing.
