The purpose of this position is to contribute to the design, development and manufacturing of world class rail products and services vital to our customer’s needs through the application of specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities. Work involves independent judgement, decision making, and creativity. Management is available to provide additional guidance for unusual situations.

Key Job Elements

• Develop, maintain, and enhance designs

based on eliciting and analyzing locomotive

and system requirements;

• Develop models of locomotive systems and

components, conduct simulations and analyze

data to optimize;

• Work with product management and

aftermarket, and systems engineering

teams on development of new products;

• Develop locomotive control system and

traction system requirements and designs;

• Validate the final product in the field on

locomotives as required;

• Provide support to field service team as

required based on field observations related

to areas of responsibility;

• Travel as required to complete validation of

system design. This travel should not exceed

20% of employee’s time.

Education / Training

Required:

• BS Electrical Engineering, Systems

Engineering, or Computer Engineering.

Preferred:

• Master Degree, Electrical Engineering.

Qualifications and Experience

Required:

• 5+ years of engineering experience

• Strong aptitude in working with data

• Experience in system modeling & analysis

• Strong personal skills and the ability to work

in groups

• Experience writing technical documents

Preferred:

• MATLAB and Simulink experience

• Familiarity with Polarion, Capella, or similar

requirements and architecture tools

• Experience with software programming

• Knowledge of control theory

Essential and Physical Activities Functions

• Strength – Position typically involves work in a standard office environment. Rare standing and walking;

• Motion – Position regularly requires standard repetitive motions and hand/eye coordination associated with office communications. Constant sitting, rare walking and standing;

• Vision/Hearing Requirements – Occasional verbal communications, including both talking and hearing;

• Work Environment – Position is consistent with standard office environment;

• Emotional Demands – High level of responsibility; high sense of urgency. Ability to multitask and coordinate multiple issues simultaneously. Requires ability to coordinate work of a team to accomplish mission success;

• Safety – Position includes safety requirements consistent primarily with a standard office environment. Position may occasionally require the use of Personal Protective Equipment during visits to industrial areas.
