Position Overview:
A leading provider of advanced manufacturing solutions is seeking a hands-on Automation Controls Engineer to design, program, and support automation systems that integrate CNC machine tools with industrial accessories and robotic cells. This role focuses on PLC/HMI development, robotic integration, and the optimization of control system performance in industrial environments. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in electrical control systems, industrial automation, and CNC applications.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, program, and implement control systems for automated equipment including PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems.
Develop and modify ladder logic and other control logic for integration with CNC machines.
Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues between CNC machines, robots, and automation equipment.
Optimize control system performance for improved uptime, safety, and system reliability.
Create and maintain technical documentation: wiring diagrams, programming manuals, and system specifications.
Perform system testing, validation, and commissioning of automation equipment both in-house and at customer sites.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (electrical, mechanical, and applications engineering) to execute turnkey automation projects.
Train operators and maintenance staff on the use and support of control systems.
Ensure all automation meets industry safety standards and participate in risk assessments.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance automation efficiency and reduce downtime.
Support machine runoff, debug, and final testing of integrated systems before customer delivery. Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent experience.
Proven experience designing and programming control systems (e.g., PLCs, HMIs, SCADA).
Proficient in PLC programming languages (e.g., Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Function Block Diagrams).
Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, OPC).
Strong understanding of electrical systems, actuators, and sensors.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
Solid troubleshooting and system optimization capabilities.
Strong communication and documentation skills.
Knowledge of machine safety standards, safety PLCs, and circuit design. Preferred:
Familiarity with Fanuc robot programming and CNC machine tool integration.
Experience with motion control systems.
Familiarity with SolidWorks Electrical.
Relevant certifications (e.g., PLC programming, Six Sigma, TÜV Functional Safety). Work Environment:
Mix of office, lab, and shop floor environments.
Hands-on technical role with exposure to machinery and automation systems. Travel Requirements:
