About Us:
The City of Glendale Parks and Recreation Department is split into two distinct areas:
The Parks Division manages and maintains all public parks, open spaces, trails, storm water retention basins, landscaping at municipal facilities and Thunderbird Conservation Park. The Division is also responsible for monitoring and ensuring the safety and security of park and facility use.
The Recreation Division offers opportunities to enhance the social, physical, mental and economic health of our community through a variety of diverse recreation programs and facilities. Recreation programs and events are held at the Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center, the Glendale Adult Center, Historic Sahuaro Ranch, the five community centers and at basketball, tennis, skate courts and other recreation facilities throughout the city.
The Role:
As the Temporary Recreation Programmer you will be responsible for planning, organizing, conducting and directing a variety of professional recreational activities at the O'Neil Recreation Center for a variety of ages, with a strong focus on youth.
Salary:
This position is:
FLSA non-exempt, and will earn overtime for any hours worked over 40 in a week.
A Grade 312 with with an annual salary between $47,091.98 - $70,638.10.

Holiday, Vacation, and Sick Leave:
Regular status positions offer:
The City of Glendale observes 10.5 holidays per year, and full-time employees are also granted an additional 12 hours of holiday special leave to celebrate their cultural or religious holidays throughout the calendar year.
Vacation leave accrues at:
5.33 hours per pay period (138 hours/17.25* days per year)
Increases to 6.12 hours after 5 years
Then caps out at 7.6 hours after 10 years of service.
Sick leave accrues at 4.4 hours per pay period (114 hours/14.25 days* per year).
* Days per year estimates are based on an 8-hour work day.
Retirement:
This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
The current contribution rate is 12.27%.
Contributions are mandatory, and are collected each pay period.

Essential Functions
Plans, organizes, schedules, conducts, and directs recreation activities in a specialty program area such as sports, arts and crafts programs, senior citizen recreation programs, special events, therapeutic recreation programs, and performing arts.
Prepares and distributes flyers, posters, and other advertisement for area programs.
Performs on-site participant registration for recreational activities.
Trains and supervises work of temporary staff.
Leads and teaches a variety of on-site recreational activities.
Enforces and explains policies and procedures to park patrons in all areas of the park.
Participates in fund raising, volunteer recruitment, and community activities.
Maintains records and prepares reports, brochures, and informational materials relating to program assignment and financial and activity records.
Assures facilities and equipment are in good order and arranged to meet the requirements of scheduled users.
May monitor program budget.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications/Special Requirements/Success Factors
Associate degree in recreation, leisure services, or a related field.Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.
Knowledge of:
The methods and techniques of program planning and objectives of public recreation
First aid methods and necessary safety precautions used in recreation work
The rules, regulations, and tournament bracketing governing various competitive athletic games such as softball, baseball, basketball, and table games
A variety of active and passive games and activities suitable for children, adolescents, adults, senior citizens, and/or special populations
The tools and techniques of teaching music, drama, crafts, sports, or other recreational/leisure time activities
Basic supervisory principles and practices
City policies and procedures, community demographics and recreational issues
Skill in:
Implementing and supervising recreational activity assignments, and stimulation of interest in recreational programs and activities
The use and care of parks and recreation equipment, materials, and facilities
Ability to:
Monitor the work of temporary staff
Operate a personal computer
Prepare reports and maintains records
Effectively communicate verbally and in writing
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with city staff and the public
Special Requirements
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification and First Aid Course certification.
May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
