Other Conditions: Lecturer applicant pool for Academic Year 2025 - 2026. Positions are part-time, temporary, non-tenure, and contingent upon course offerings, sufficient student enrollment, position clearance and availability of funding. May be for courses during the day, evening, off-campus, and/or via distance learning, as needed. Most DATA courses at UH Hilo are taught in-person on campus, but occasionally openings may only be available for classes taught via the Internet.

Duties and Responsibilities

Teach assigned courses in the data science curriculum. Courses that may be covered by a Data Science (DATA) lecturer are described in the UH Hilo catalog:

Maintain minimum of one on-campus in-person office hour per week for each course taught.

Prepare course schedule, syllabus, and reports related to teaching and student progress.

Work under the supervision of the data science program coordinator.

Committed to principles of higher education and philosophy.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree or Ph. D. in data science or in an area closely related to the course(s) taught. Those not meeting minimum qualifications may be considered on an exception basis, for instance, substantial industry experience may substitute for lack of a Master’s degree.

Proficient in Python or R

Desirable Qualifications

Experience teaching data science, Python, R, machine learning, or statistics courses at the university or community college level.

Industry or research experience related to data science.
