The College & Career Readiness Instructor is responsible for providing quality instruction that meets the needs of the student in the areas of adult basic skills (ABS), essential digital skills, human resource development (resume writing, interview skills, etc.) and knowledge needed for employment and post-secondary training/degree programs and using technology for civic engagement. This position provides individual and group instruction to students at Person and Caswell Campus, community centers (churches, meeting places), and correctional facilities. Successful candidate will maintain classroom, equipment, and inventories and maintain accurate records and submit timely reports; and manage and supervise aides and students in a classroom setting.

Examples of Duties

Essential Duties

Instruct College and Career Readiness (CCR) classes at Person and Caswell Campus, community centers, and corrections facilities.

Assess individual learner's needs, set goals, and prescribe a plan of instructional activities to meet these goals.

Develop lesson plans for group instruction using the class profile developed from students’ assessment.

Evaluate and provide feedback on students' progress, record grades, and revise plans as needed and provide student recommendations for various testing services.

Maintain accurate records, including LEIS paperwork, daily attendance, end-of-course reconciliation, and other paperwork and reports as requested.

Maintain confidentiality of student information (FERPA).

Meet all deadlines for initial student enrollment, end-of-course reconciliation, and others as assigned.

Maintain security of instructional materials, tests, answer keys, and student audit files.

Attend staff development, state, and local training to meet instructor training.

Be familiar with available teaching materials and provide an engaging and interactive teaching environment.

Adhere to Piedmont Community College policies and procedures.

Provide instruction that encompasses the 13 Federal Considerations as part of Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA).Additional Duties

Manage and supervise aides and students in a classroom setting.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher from accredited college or university. Demonstrated ability to teach and engage students (including one-on-one instruction). Demonstrated ability to supervise students and aides in a classroom setting. Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records; the ability to facilitate other instructors.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Understanding of and commitment to unique nature and role of the college & career readiness program, and the adult learner through knowledge of the methodology of providing individualized instruction. Possess an understanding of WIOA and its integration into instruction.

This job requires continuously talking or hearing, frequently standing and frequently walking. In addition to:

Frequently: lift or carry up to 20 lbs.; bend, stoop, reach above shoulder level, walk, sit, or stand.

Occasionally: lift or carry up to 50 lbs.; push or pull up to 60 lbs.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office and classroom setting. Most work is done inside the perimeter of an adult prison environment and includes daily contact with and supervision of incarcerated individuals.

Must maintain security clearance and access to correctional center to maintain employment.

Regular work week: Evening work required, occasional weekend work and travel may be required.

Health and Safety Standards

All employees of Piedmont Community College who must enter an outside agency for the purpose of their work will be expected to adhere to the health and safety standards of that agency. This includes background checks, vaccinations, or any other requirements set forth by the agency.
