About the Job:
Under the general direction of the Director of Finance and Accounting, the Controller is responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial reporting, accounting operations, and internal controls while driving process improvements across the finance function. This role requires a strategic thinker who thrives on analyzing financial data, streamlining workflows, leveraging technology to enhance efficiency, and leading a high-performing team. Under the Controller’s leadership, the accounting function will become more automated, data-driven and the quality of financial reporting will increase, which will enable faster decision-making and scalability to support the company’s continued growth.
What You Do:
Lead and manage the accounting team by providing mentorship, providing professional development and fostering growth mindsets
Produce accurate and timely monthly/annual financial statements including, but not limited to, Balance Sheet, Income Statement and Statement of Cash Flows
Champion a culture of continuous improvement by identifying inefficiencies, automating processes, and implementing best practices within the accounting function
Perform month-end and year-end close in Epicor ERP, including preparing reports and reconciliations
Perform financial planning and analysis activities, including preparing the annual budget, forecasts, variance analyses and other ad hoc analyses
Serve as a key partner to operations, providing financial insights and recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency
Assist in the administration of the ESOP trust accounting and distributions, the annual stock ledger roll forwards, and the preparation of the annual year-end workpapers for the valuation company
Lead annual financial review and tax preparation by interfacing with CPAs and preparing year-end work papers
Collaborate with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory agencies to support compliance and reporting requirements; ensure compliance with federal, state and local tax laws and timely payment of all taxes
Prepare bank covenant compliance reporting and proactively identify potential issues, keeping management informed to support strategic decision-making
Oversee bank and investment account administration, ensuring robust operational controls and accurate financial reconciliation processes
Evaluate and implement financial systems and technologies to ensure data accuracy, reporting, and decision-making, while maintaining internal controls and GAAP compliance
Maintain subledger account integrity: A/R, A/p, Inventory, Received Goods, Rescue School A/R and Revenue Recognition
Who You Are:
5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field with significant accounting coursework
CPA preferred
Manufacturing experience preferred
Advanced, hands-on knowledge of financial reporting systems, GAAP, economics, and Cost Accounting principles and applications
Hands-on experience with FP&A, including budgeting, forecasting and financial modeling
Tech-savvy, with experience optimizing ERP systems, automation tools and financial software
Highly analytical and detail-oriented with a problem-solving mindset and a passion for process improvement
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to develop and mentor a high- performing accounting team
Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive initiatives independently
Must possess strong communication skills to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, customers, and colleagues in both verbal and written form
Ability to work efficiently and accurately and the ability to consistently meet deadlines
Ability to read and interpret general business forms and government documents
Advanced Excel skills
Experience with an ERP system in a manufacturing environment preferred
Able to travel as needed
