GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB
The Pilot Plant Technician will work as part of an interdisciplinary team focused on the implementation and improvement of CSL USA’s culture production processes through media, fermentation, and downstream process development. Principal duties include the preparation of media and samples, sample enumeration, operation of small-scale bioreactors, and general lab upkeep. This position is a key participant and must contribute in a fast paced, collaborative, and efficient team while exhibiting “Hungry, Humble, and Smart” qualities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following statements reflect the general details necessary to describe the major functions of this position and are not intended to be a detailed description of all the work/functions that may be required. Other duties may be assigned.
Follows operating discipline policies, principles, procedures, standards, and practices to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of assigned areas.
Prepares media for Pilot fermentations and sample analysis, including material verification, weighing, autoclaving, pouring, and dispensing.
Responsible for the set-up, operation, disassembly, and cleaning of equipment for laboratory-scale fermentations including bioreactors, bench-top centrifuges, and freeze-dryers.
Conducts sampling and testing of in-process, finished material, and stability samples generated by Pilot Lab.
Accurately generates and records data from laboratory-scale fermentations, investigations, and stability studies.
Effectively communicates ideas, questions, and issues with department leadership.
Maintains compliance with company policies and procedures, including training and development requirements.
Maintains supplies, equipment, and cleanliness of all laboratory areas.
Additional routine tasks may be assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in food sciences, microbiology, biology, chemistry or the like required. Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of aseptic technique and applicable laboratory methods; experience preferred
Knowledge and experience with Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Good Documentation Practices (GDPs); experience preferred
