Summary:
Shoals Technologies, a global renewable energy organization is hiring an Applications Engineer. This person will help drive Shoals New Markets solutions into the Community and Commercial Solar, Battery Energy Storage, Data Center and OEM Markets. This position will report into the Engineering Group via the Director, Integration Engineering.Comfort in a startup environment will be needed; the applicant must be willing to wear multiple hats and solve problems without looking to others for specific direction. This position will take direction from the engineering group and partner closely with the product management and sales teams to select products for projects from drawings and design documents provided by the customer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Applications Engineer will be responsible for working arm in arm with sales and product management to decide the best possible solution, provide a quotation and deliver a solution to the customer.They must have extensive knowledge of the offerings and must understand the value proposition which distinguishes these offerings. Specific areas of responsibility include site evaluation, solution design, price and cost estimation for Shoals customers, partnering with sales to win deals, and partnering with field operations to fulfill awarded projects.
This role is responsible for reviewing drawings and designs provided by customers, proposing a solution and providing a quote.
The candidate will need to become very familiar with Shoals current and future solutions and propose specific technical solutions to solve customer needs.Shoals' offerings include pre-terminated wiring, standard wiring harnesses, customer wiring solutions, distribution cabinetry, data center wiring and other eBOS products.
The Application Engineer will present Shoals technical solutions, discuss/review customer application and drawings, propose solutions, support Sales in quoting, support Sales to renew orders and interface with Project Management for delivery, support sales and CRM process improvement,and support PLM to collect Voice of Customer.
The candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to envision difficult challenges and arriving at the best possible alternative with little outside guidance.
The position requires experience within a technical background including engineering, estimation, construction and CAD Design, in addition to being comfortable communicating the proposed solution and associated value proposition.
Pre-Sale:
Collaborate with sales teams and customers to understand customer requirements and provide sales support.
Talk directly with customers, product management and engineers to assess needs and to determine customer requirements.
Prepare and deliver technical presentations explaining products or services to existing and prospective customers.
Prepare specific quotes to solve customer needs by using Shoals solutions, offerings of partner companies and identifying solutions for missing elements of the proposal.
Help in researching and developing new products as needed.
Recommend improved solutions to customers versus the traditional ways of deploying solar modules, showing how changes will lower installed costs
Partner with sales to secure and renew orders and arrange delivery.
Review customer engineering documents and drawings to determine a potential bill of material
Receive and process requests for quotations and decide the over-arching product solution and best path to create a BOM potentially using internal or external resources
Propose systems, and procedural improvements to streamline the process and timeline for handling, completing, and proposing customer bid responses.
Aid with other New Markets product lines as needed including OEM, BESS and Data Centers in evaluating and proposing different solutions options.
Post Sale:
Ensure use of the CRM and drive sales efficiency maximizing the potential of the CRM.
Provide report of field activities and communicate VOC data to other team members via the CRM.

Requirements:
Bachelors degree in engineering or business; advanced degree preferred
Minimum 3 years in construction estimation, electrical engineering, single line or electrical design
Proven track record of success in exceeding customer expectations
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
AC and DC power systems engineering design experience preferred
Ability to travel at least 20% of the time
