Position Summary:

The Quality Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all quality control and assurance activities within the plant. This role ensures that the plant’s products meet the required standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. The Quality Manager will lead a team of quality professionals, implement quality management systems (QMS), monitor production processes, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, reduce defects, and optimize production efficiency. The position requires a strong understanding of quality systems, industry regulations, and team leadership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management

Lead and manage the quality control team, providing clear direction, training, and performance evaluations.

Develop and implement training programs to ensure that employees understand quality standards, inspection procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Set and communicate performance expectations for the quality team and evaluate their performance, providing feedback and coaching as needed.

Foster a culture of quality and continuous improvement throughout the plant, promoting collaboration between the quality department and other functions such as production, maintenance, and logistics.

Quality Assurance and Quality Control

· Oversee all quality assurance and control activities within the plant to ensure that products consistently meet customer specifications, regulatory standards, and internal quality requirements.

· Develop, implement, and maintain quality control procedures and processes to ensure consistency and reliability in products.

· Monitor product quality at every stage of production, from raw material inspections to final product testing, ensuring that all products meet established standards.

· Address and resolve quality issues promptly, working with production and maintenance teams to implement corrective and preventive actions.

· Accurate use of colorimeters to measure the thickness of the coating on aluminum coils.

· Accurate use and analysis of BYK color tests on coatings of finished coils.

· The ability to administer MEK rub tests to determine adhesion strength, wear resistance, and surface finish quality.

· The ability to process TBend testing for flexibility of aluminum coils.

Continuous Improvement

· Lead and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, reduce defects, and increase operational efficiency, using lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.

· Work with cross-functional teams to identify areas for process improvement, reduce waste, and enhance productivity while maintaining high-quality standards.

· Utilize statistical process control (SPC) and data analysis to monitor product quality trends, identify root causes of defects, and implement corrective actions.

· Implement a culture of quality by encouraging all team members to contribute to quality initiatives and improvements.

Customer Relations

· Act as the primary point of contact for customers regarding quality concerns, complaints, and product specifications.

· Address customer quality concerns and ensure timely corrective actions are implemented.

Safety

· Regularly review and update safety policies to address new risks, technological advancements, or changes in legal requirements.

· Ensure that safety programs cover all aspects of operations, including machinery, chemicals, ergonomics, and emergency preparedness.

· Promote a culture of safety within the team, ensuring that safety protocols and procedures are always followed.

· Work with the Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) team to develop and implement safety training programs, ensuring all team members are properly trained.

Working Conditions:

· Environment: In an aluminum coil coating environment and quality lab, which includes exposure to high noise levels, temperature fluctuations, and fumes/vapors.

· Shifts: Dayshift with weekends and holidays as needed.

· Pace: Fast-paced industrial setting requiring constant awareness of moving machinery and material flow.

Qualifications: Education/Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree in quality assurance, engineering, manufacturing, or a related field.

· 5+ years of experience in quality control or quality assurance manager role.

· Familiarity with statistical analysis tools, process control methods, and quality improvement methodologies (Six Sigma, Lean, etc.).

· Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.

Jupiter Aluminum has three plants, one in Hammond IN, Fairland, IN (Jupiter Coil Coating) and Beech Bottom, WV (Jupiter Coil Coating). The Hammond, IN plant is located on 25 acres and with more than 600,000 square feet under one roof. Its operations include melting, casting, cold rolling, annealing, tension leveling and finishing processes. More than 90 percent of the raw material is aluminum scrap coming from street-collected scrap and industrial scrap.
