DESCRIPTION: Responsible to the management and overall operation of the vehicle fleet to ensure availability and operability to support transportation operations.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Knowledgeable in all aspects of Fleet maintenance to include major components, parts, and software to manage a fleet of MCI motor coaches, vans, and sedans.
Interacts with senior leadership to determine current and future needs for business.
Carries out strategic vision of Fleet.
Maintains mission capable rate above 90%.
Provide daily/monthly/quarterly updates of vehicle status to Corporate Fleet Manager.
Review financial/budget reports and prepare yearly operating budget.
Review daily update of vehicle status reports from Assistant Fleet Managers.
Supervise the total vehicle maintenance and repair program.
Negotiate and establish repair cost or parts pricing with commercial vendors.
Streamline and monitor fuel purchases.
Authorize and audit repair actions and maintenance expenses.
Advise Corporate Fleet Manager on the acquisition of needed facilities, equipment and tools necessary for the proper maintenance of vehicles.
Ensure vehicles meet state and federal regulations.
Maintain vehicle maintenance files in accordance with Company policy, state, and federal regulations.
Responsible for Fleet’s compliance to all government regulations, Company policies and practices.
Oversee the scheduling and performance of required vehicle inspections and submit required reports.
Supervises vehicle preventative maintenance program.
Audit inspections for any major defects or corrections.
Remains abreast of trends and technical changes as they develop in the automotive and transportation industry.
Stay abreast of current parts and supply prices, availability and an awareness of economical purchasing.
Work with Assistant Fleet Managers to ensure good vehicle maintenance records are kept and vehicles are maintained is safe operational condition.
Develop and maintain efficient shop performance standards and procedures to maximize uptime, safety, and reduce costs.
Assist in writing vehicle utilization policy.
Plan and schedule training sessions to keep mechanics informed and trained in the repair of MCI motor coaches and other support vehicles and equipment.
Develop and maintain a perpetual and annual inventory of vehicles, equipment, radios, video cameras, computers, printers, and other special purpose equipment.
Directs and supervises the activities of all fleet maintenance personnel to include Assistant Fleet Managers, Motor Vehicle Mechanics, Motor Vehicle Mechanic Helpers, Janitors/Cleaner, Vehicles.
Other Collateral Duties: Perform other duties as directed by the Program Manager.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and/or Experience:
Must be a United States Citizen
21 years of age or older
Associates Degree in Transportation Management and 5+ years of experience in the transportation industry.
Minimum 5+ years of managerial experience
Minimum 5+ years of fleet management and maintenance experience.
Minimum 5+ years of diesel diagnostic experience
Experience with maintenance and inventory management including associated tracking software.
Working knowledge of compliance requirements for DOT and OSHA regulations and compliance.
Clear criminal history; no felonies or Class A misdemeanors.
Must have and maintain a current/valid Commercial Driver’s License and maintain a safe driving record.
Must pass a background investigation.
Computer skills including proficiency in various Microsoft Office Suite programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Strong organizational skills commensurate with position.
Language Skills. Able to:
Read, write and communicate in English.
Read and interpret documents such as quality and safety policy and rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Write routine reports and correspondence.
Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Physical Demands. Able to:
Regularly stand, walk, sit; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell.
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
