Emergency Medical Services Coder (Onsite)
Location: Phoenix, AZ 85008 (Relocating to 85281 area in September 2025)
Schedule: 7:00am – 3:00pm or 8:00am – 4:00p
Pay Rate: $24 – $35 per hour (DOE)
5 years of EMS Coding experience
OR
2 years of EMS Coding experience WITH a Coding Certification
Key Responsibilities:
Review and analyze EMS run reports and related medical documentation for completeness and accuracy.
Assign appropriate diagnosis (ICD-10), procedure (CPT/HCPCS) codes based on services provided during EMS transport.
Validate documentation against billing and coding regulations to ensure compliant claim submission.
Work closely with EMS providers, billing teams, and QA staff to resolve coding discrepancies.
Maintain productivity and accuracy standards as set by the department or organization.
Respond to payer inquiries and assist with appeals or audits as needed.
Stay updated on EMS coding and billing policies, payer requirements, and industry best practices.
Ensure all coding activities comply with HIPAA and organizational confidentiality standards.
Requirements:
Certified Medical Coder, open to minimum of 5 years experience in EMS coding in lieu of a certification.
Minimum of 2 years of hands-on EMS coding experience required coupled with a coding certification.
Strong knowledge of EMS billing guidelines and compliance standards.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Proficient in EMS coding software and Microsoft Office tools.
