The City of Garden Grove is currently accepting applications for the position of

COMMUNITY SERVICES COORDINATOR.

Deadline to apply for this recruitment is Monday, June 30, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. PSTThere is currently one (1) full-time vacancy for a Community Services Coordinator at the H. Louis Lake Senior Center. Under general direction, the Community Services Coordinator is responsible for planning, promoting, organizing, coordinating, supervising and implementing fee-based, general-funded, and/or grant-funded programming for seniors and older adults.

ABOUT THE H. LOUIS LAKE SENIOR CENTER

The Senior Center offers a wide variety of recreational and educational classes for seniors to encourage them to socialize and engage in a supportive environment. One of the primary goals of the Senior Center is to ensure that no senior goes hungry. The Senior Center receives funding to provide the home delivery meals (HDM) program, an on-site lunch program, and a senior transportation program to ensure seniors are able to access the meals available to them at the Center. The Senior Center also offers an array of educational support classes and recreational activities including evening dances and special events.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess: excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking skills; a positive attitude; the ability to work independently on a variety of assignments; good organizational, planning, and time management skills; experience working with the Microsoft Office suite of products; and excellent customer service skills.

Essential Duties

Develop, coordinate and implement a wide variety of Senior Center programs and activities;

Coordinate the Senior Mobility Transportation program and the Case Management program;

Manage program budgets, including the purchasing of program materials, and payments to vendors and contracting service providers;

Prepare marketing materials for programs, services and events;

Maintain records of program participation and expenses and prepare reports;

Assist in the recruitment, training, coordination, and supervision of volunteers and staff;

Evaluate program goals and make suggestions for improvements;

Work with various community organizations to coordinate speakers, program providers, financial donations and other service opportunities;

Represent the Senior Center in professional and collaborative groups and organizations;

Plan special events;

Manage large group excursions; and

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION:

Two (2) years of college (60 semester units) with major coursework in gerontology, public administration, recreation administration, social or behavioral sciences, or a related field is required. Bachelor's degree in the aforementioned coursework is considered highly desirable.

EXPERIENCE:Two (2) years of experience in planning, organizing, and implementing senior and older adult programs and/or activities is required.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Community resources for older adults, including federal and state programs; recreational, educational and health-related programs and activities for older adults; grant management; operation of general office equipment including Microsoft Office; general office duties; first-aid practices and techniques; and basic facility management and building safety practices.

ABILITY TO:

Plan, coordinate, and supervise community activities and special events; prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive written and oral reports; gather and maintain adequate operating records; conduct analyses and make accurate recommendations based on study findings; recommend comprehensive programs based upon community needs, available resources and overall city priorities and policies; enforce city rules and regulations; control budget and properly account for revenues; plan, organize, review, and evaluate the work of non-regular and seasonal employees; lead, motivate, and train staff in work procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, management, vendors, contractors, consultants, sports officials, community groups, commissioners, public and private representatives, and others contacted in the course of work; understand and follow written and oral instructions; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; remain calm in emergency situations; and operate computer equipment and use word processing, spreadsheet, database, and graphics software programs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Incumbents in this classification speak clearly, hear normal conversation, stand, walk, sit, see small details, use a telephone, type, and work on a personal computer. For some assignments, incumbents must be able to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment described here is representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Incumbents in this classification work both inside and outside, in direct contact with the public and in vast temperature changes. This classification regularly and frequently works evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid California "Class C" Driver's License and maintenance of an acceptable driving record. An acceptable driving record is one that has three (3) or fewer DMV points issued within the past five (5) years, and no more than one (1) DUI within the past ten (10) years.
