The Opportunity:

We are seeking a Sr. Backend Engineer with a strong cloud development mindset to join our API engineering team. You will specialize in designing, building, and operating scalable, high-performance APIs primarily using PHP/Laravel 10+ within the AWS ecosystem. Collaborate closely with DevOps to leverage cloud-native services, ensure infrastructure stability, and optimize for performance and cost-efficiency. Use modern tools, including AI assistants, to enhance productivity and deliver robust solutions in our evolving cloud environment.

What You'll Do:

Cloud-Native API Development: Design, implement, and maintain scalable, secure RESTful APIs optimized for AWS, using PHP/Laravel.

• AWS Service Utilization: Leverage appropriate AWS services (e.g., Lambda, SQS, RDS, ElastiCache - experience desirable) effectively in collaboration with DevOps.

• Infrastructure Collaboration: Partner with DevOps on CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code practices (familiarity a plus), monitoring (Datadog, CloudWatch), and ensuring operational excellence.

• Performance & Scalability Focus: Optimize applications and database interactions (MS SQL, PostgreSQL) for speed, efficiency, and scalability in the cloud.

• Build & Test: Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code (PHPUnit) suitable for cloud deployment.

• AI-Driven Efficiency: Employ AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot) to streamline development and improve code quality.

• Troubleshoot Cloud Issues: Diagnose and resolve complex technical problems within the cloud environment, including performance and connectivity issues.

• Agile Teamwork: Actively participate in Agile processes, communicate effectively, and collaborate on technical solutions.

• Security in the Cloud: Implement security best practices relevant to cloud-based applications and APIs.

• On-Call Duties: Participate in rotation for supporting critical cloud infrastructure and APIs.

What You Bring:

• Senior Backend Experience: 5+ years building and operating backend systems, preferably with cloud exposure.

• PHP/Laravel Expertise: Deep knowledge and hands-on experience with PHP and Laravel (10+).

• Strong AWS Experience: Proven experience developing, deploying, and managing applications on AWS. Familiarity with core AWS services is essential.

• Cloud Design Principles: Understanding of building scalable, resilient, and cost-effective applications in the cloud.

• API Development: Strong skills in RESTful API design and implementation.

• Database Proficiency: Expertise with relational databases (MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and caching in a cloud context.

• AI Tool Usage: Practical experience leveraging AI tools for backend development productivity.

• Testing Mindset: Commitment to thorough testing (PHPUnit).

• DevOps Collaboration: Experience working with Git, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and collaborating effectively with DevOps teams.

• Problem Solving & Resilience: Strong analytical skills; ability to troubleshoot cloud-specific issues and navigate a dynamic environment

Highly Desirable:

• Migrating applications to AWS or modernizing PHP apps.

• Node.js, JavaScript, or TypeScript experience.

• Experience with serverless (Lambda) or queuing systems (SQS, Laravel Horizon).

• E-commerce systems experience.

• OAuth/JWT familiarity.
