Job Description

Supervise the General Accounting Department for Amerant Bancorp and its subsidiaries to provide an accurate and complete statement of the bank’s financial well being using sound and well established accounting procedures through analysis, research and information gathering.

Responsibilities:

Research and analyze General Ledger to accurately reflect the bank’s financial condition and offer timely information to be used on monthly financial statements for the external and internal users.

Analyze subsystems data to identify and correct discrepancies and errors affecting financial data.

Continuously analyze department functions to optimize processes through automation.

General Ledger Variance Analysis/ identify and correct any errors/ post month-end entries to the General Ledger.

Independently analyzes and interprets a wide variety of costs and charges relating to labor, material, billings, authorizations for payments, etc., to ensure compliance with established company accounting procedures and accepted accounting practices.

Prepare, review and maintain policies and procedures for all departmental functions.

Assists company management in internal and external audits. Maintains schedules to support external audits; may also coordinate related documentation for external auditors and act as a contact point during the audit.

General Ledger chart of accounts and cost center maintenance and control

General Ledger processing and balancing control

Accounting for Subsidiaries including eliminations for Consolidation

Reviews trial balances for Financial Reporting

Review and approve management reports and financial data entries.

Processing of Accounting entries for Payroll and Funding of accounts

Review Budgets and Inter-company Billing schedules.

Mentoring the Direct Reports

Assist Department Manager in selection and hiring of new personnel.

Responsible for direct supervision of staff including performance appraisals.

Complete special project requested by management.

Other duties as required.

Minimum Education and/or Certifications Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required. CPA preferred or eleven years experience in lieu of education.

Minimum Work Experience Requirements:

Seven to nine years experience in accounting or finance in a financial institution. Supervisory or Management experience preferred.

Technical and/or Other Essential Knowledge:

Previous experience with MS Office, including MS Word Advanced, MS Excel Advanced and MS PowerPoint Level II required. Ability to accurately interpret financial statements.
