Position Overview
The Material Optimization Specialist will be responsible for maximizing material usage, minimizing waste and ensuring cost efficiency throughout the manufacturing process. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication, nesting software and lean manufacturing principles.
Position Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or GED
Experience: Two or more years of experience in sheet metal manufacturing, ERP/MRP systems and production scheduling tools and knowledge of sustainability and waste reduction initiatives in manufacturing.
Duties and Responsibilities
Analyze production data to identify material usage trends, inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement
Develop and implement optimization strategies for raw material usage, particularly sheet metal.
Utilize nesting software (e.g. Dr. Abe, VPSS 4ie or similar) to plan cutting layouts for maximum yield and minimum scrap.
Collaborate with engineering and production teams to align cutting plans with product specifications and production schedules.
Work closely with CNC programmers relating to new programs, tooling, revisions and any issues that arise.
Monitor inventory levels and material usage in real time, ensuring optimal stock levels without over-ordering.
Continuously review and improve nesting techniques, part layouts and scrap recovery strategies.

Hours: Regular 40-hour workweek. Overtime as needed.
