General Description:
The purpose of the AVP Personal and Commercial Lines Product Management is to develop and maintain products, rates and technology solutions that offer market relevant coverage options, differentiated and competitive pricing and a level of ease of use for producers that will attract and retain profitable relationships and customers to Universal North America. The AVP Personal and Commercial Lines Product Management is responsible for managing all filed lines of business in the territories assigned and will work in conjunction with internal and external partners to ensure compliance with pertinent regulatory and legal requirements. The person in this role will seek to innovate and use creative methods to enhance the UNA offering and add value to UNA’s distribution partners.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Attracts, develops, and retains knowledgeable, engaged, and enthusiastic team members who are personally motivated, responsible, and contributing team members.

Establishes and monitors multi-dimensional portfolio performance metrics.
Assists in communication, education and understanding of the key attributes impacting results.
Continually monitors and analyzes competitive positioning of UIM products.
Establishes and executes a process of periodic, collaborative, and cross functional product review and assessment.
Collects, evaluates and balances initiatives to meet corporate goals of growth, retention, profitability and customer satisfaction.
Develops and implements rate, rule and form filings in all states and filed lines of business.
Develops and implements new programs/states/lines of business as needed to support corporate goals.
Identifies and addresses emerging risks to limit negative impact to UNA.
Implements and reviews risk segmentation programs to balance product, pricing and underwriting to maximize opportunities.
Continually seeks feedback and understanding of competitor product, rate and operational changes and UNA relative market position in each state and product line.
Supports and provides product guidance in the process of implementing system enhancements and changes.
Manages vendor relationships to optimize expenditures, product quality and service levels.
Identifies, evaluates and makes recommendations on external services, sources of data and/or technology for integration into front and/or back end systematic and/or human processes to improve user experience and reduce data entry without sacrificing data or decision quality.
Provides input into the management of agent performance/results.
Acts as subject matter expert for UNA products, providing training and support for operations, marketing and sales teams.
Collaborates with Arrowhead on products under common distribution to ensure compliance with statutes, regulations and filed program rate, rules and forms.
Assists operations with establishing internal procedures to ensure consistent and correct application of rates and rules.
Develops and implement process to minimize premium leakage.
Manages expenses within allocated budget.
Some travel may be required.
Performs other duties as required.

Education and / or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
Minimum of ten (10) years of recent industry experience to include advanced knowledge and understanding of personal and commercial lines products, processes and fundamental underwriting and financial principles.
Demonstrated ability to lead complex underwriting assignments.
Strong analytical, organizational and time management skills.
Superior written and verbal communication capabilities.
Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
Experience and knowledge of risk segmentation, financial analysis, insurance pricing, internet business channels, business planning and strategy, and business project / program management.
Understanding of state and federal regulatory compliance requirements.
Prudent, balanced, and timely decision-making skills.
Ability to smartly balance growth, retention, and profitability goals.
Ability and desire to efficiently manage a time sensitive and often heavy workload.
Proficiency with Microsoft office applications including Access, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Continuing industry education progress toward or attainment of recognized designations.
Successful experience developing product training material for front line staff
Understanding of catastrophe risk analysis tools.
Experience with industry level, portfolio level, producer/underwriter level and policy level results reviews with development of appropriate action plans for results improvement.
Prior experience with product development, competitive analysis and pricing evaluation.
Project Management training and application through successful project completion preferred.
Licenses and / or Certifications:
CPCU preferred.
