Were partnering with a forward-thinking manufacturing solutions company seeking a Junior Controls Engineer to join their engineering and technology team in Grand Rapids, MI. This is a full-time, onsite position ideal for a curious, mechanically inclined professional ready to grow in automation, motion control, and system integration. Youll work under the mentorship of experienced engineers, contributing directly to machine builds and advanced stamping systems that drive modern manufacturing.Key Responsibilities:

Assist in programming and troubleshooting PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, etc.)

Support electrical panel wiring, installation, and commissioning of automation systems

Tune and optimize motion systems, sensors, and I/O under senior guidance

Participate in Factory and Site Acceptance Testing (FAT/SAT) of machinery

Help integrate PC-based systems, vision tools, and data software with industrial controls

Make logic adjustments to ladder code under supervision

Contribute to machine assembly, shop testing, and on-site startup support

Maintain and update engineering documentation, SOPs, and as-built recordsRecommended Qualifications:

Familiarity with ladder logic and PLC systems

Exposure to HMI development and electrical design tools

Basic competence in reading schematics and panel layouts

Mechanical aptitude with a hands-on approach to machinery

Clear communicator with a team-first mindset

Interest in expanding knowledge into PC integration and industrial data systemsPreferred Background:

13 years of experience in controls, automation, or manufacturing environments

Associates or Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related fields

Practical experience with machine builds or control panel assembly
