Position Summary:
The Controller is a key member of the finance leadership team, responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining robust financial controls, and providing essential financial analysis to support the company’s growth and profitability. This position requires a seasoned accounting professional with extensive experience in the 3PL industry, a proven track record of managing accounting functions, and a strong understanding of financial regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Operations Management:
• Oversee all financial operations, including general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and payroll.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations and accounting standards (GAAP).
• Manage cash flow, working capital, and assist with risk management activities.
• Implement and maintain robust financial controls and procedures.
• Knowledgeable of Sarbanes-Oxley Act with the ability to direct company on proper procedures and reporting.
• Oversee and manage the company’s audits.
• Prepare and analyze financial statements, reports, and budgets.
• Manage the month-end and year-end close processes.
• Coordinate with external auditors and ensure timely completion of audits.
• Assist with tax compliance and reporting.
Financial Planning & Analysis Support:
• Support the financial planning and analysis (FP&A) process, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.
• Provide insightful financial analysis to support operational and strategic decision-making.
• Identify and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) specific to the 3PL warehousing sector.
Team Leadership and Development:
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team.
• Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the accounting department.
• Provide guidance and support to team members to enhance their professional development.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
• Collaborate effectively with other department heads to ensure accurate financial data and support operational efficiency.
• Build and maintain relationships with banks, and other financial partners.
• Serve as a financial liaison to the parent company, supporting reporting, presentations, and strategic alignment.
Industry Expertise:
• Maintain a deep understanding of the 3PL industry and its financial trends.
• Experience with WMS, LMS, and financial reporting within the 3PL sector.
• Knowledgeable of RFP processes and pricing structures for different verticals within 3PL warehousing.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; CPA preferred.
• Minimum of 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role within the 3PL industry (Warehousing or Distribution).
• Proven track record of managing and optimizing accounting operations.
• Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems.
• Deep understanding of financial regulations and accounting standards (GAAP).
• Demonstrated experience in implementing financial controls and risk management strategies.
• Strong understanding of 3PL operations and related financial metrics.
Preferred Skills:
• Experience with WMS (Warehouse Management Systems) and LMS (Labor Management Systems).
• Knowledge of pricing structures and RFP processes within the 3PL warehousing sector.
• Familiarity with financial reporting in parent company structure.
Physical Demands:
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Occasional lifting of items up to 20 pounds.
• Ability to work in an office environment with standard office equipment.
Work Environment:
• Primarily office-based with occasional visits to warehouse facilities.
• Fast-paced and collaborative team environment.
Travel Requirements:
• Occasional travel may be required for training, conferences, or meetings with off-site teams (20%).
Equipment Used:
• Standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers.
• Financial software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Directly supervise accounting staff.
• Provides leadership, coaching, and development opportunities for the team.
• Oversee performance management, goal setting, and professional development for accounting personnel.
