Job Summary:

The Quality Systems Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining quality management systems that meet regulatory requirements, customer expectations, and industry best practices. Supporting three manufacturing facilities, this role ensures that processes operate efficiently and produce high-quality products by identifying areas for improvement through data analysis and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Key responsibilities include managing internal and external audits (including supplier audits), supporting ISO 14001 implementation, assisting with customer satisfaction requirements, and driving corrective actions based on KPI data. The Quality Systems Engineer plays a vital role in fostering a culture of continuous improvement and ensuring compliance throughout the organization.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Ensure compliance with IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 standards across three facilities

Manage all internal and external audits, including supplier audits

Assist the EHS team with ISO 14001 implementation and audit readiness

Collaborate with Quality Engineering to support customer satisfaction and compliance requirements

Assist with the collection and analysis of key performance indicator (KPI) data across facilities

Support APQP and PPAP activities for new product development and launches

Monitor quality KPIs across locations, identify trends, and assist in corrective actions

Coordinate corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes

Ensure compliance related to calibration

Lead Procedure development and Implementation

Collaborate with production, engineering, supply chain, and EHS personnel

Performs miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Strong understanding of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards and quality management system principles

Experience leading or supporting internal, external, and supplier audits

Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data to drive process improvements

Proficient in root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone, 8D)

Familiarity with customer satisfaction metrics and complaint resolution process

Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills

Effective interpersonal skills for collaborating across departments and levels

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and quality-related/QMS software tools

Detail-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to identifying and solving issues

Working knowledge of statistical methods and quality tools (SPC, FMEA, Control Plans, etc.)

Willingness to travel locally between three Grand Rapids-area facilities, and for occasional training or supplier audits

Gage Calibrations

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree preferred in Engineering, Quality, or a related field — equivalent work experience will be considered

Lead Auditor Certification required (IATF 16949)

3+ years of experience in quality systems or quality engineering within the automotive industry

Strong knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO 9001, APQP, PPAP, and core quality tools (FMEA, MSA, SPC)

Familiarity with ISO 14001 environmental management systems (preferred)

Experience supporting customer quality requirements and satisfaction metrics

Experience managing internal and supplier audits

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking during an 8 hours shift.

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.

The employee is occasionally required to walk and talk or hear.
