Job Summary

The Controls Manager is responsible for leading a team that will design, manage and execute the various controls sequences within Nortek DCC products including embedded and system controllers, HMI controls, and controls testing. The Controls Manager will be the technical expert and work cross functionally with engineering, sales and service to determine controls requirements and sequence of operations. This position will also interact with customers to guide the integration of BMS equipment and recommend controls strategies for Nortek DCC.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensuring efficient and reliable sequences of operation for the functioning of data center equipment and systems within the product portfolio.

• Planning, directing, and coordinating the tasks and growth for the controls team to develop sequence of operations in compliance with company goals and objectives.

• Provide technical guidance, consultation and support to design engineering, sales, and other stakeholders.

• Identifies opportunities to differentiate our controls strategies within the data center market.

• Act as a liaison between the controls team and other departments

• Accountable for the creation of sequence of operations, HMI development and on-time execution of testing that adhere to the product and customer specifications and requirements.

• Contributes to the development of test plans and test scripts for performance and witness testing.

• Leads the effort to automate end of line testing.

• Works directly with customers on sequence of operation and test execution.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, ensuring customer satisfaction and continued repeat business.

• Oversee technical training and performance of the controls team.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Technical expert with in-depth knowledge of HVAC / data center controls strategies

• Knowledge of relevant industry regulations and standards.

• Ability to review schematics and P&ID drawings, with strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.

• Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, psychrometric, and HVAC electrical systems

• Understanding all technical applications and equipment dynamics in the mission critical space.

• Maintain employee safety and morale by creating a safe working and efficient working environment.

• Maintain proper employment levels through selecting, interviewing, and training of personnel

• Ability to work collaboratively and lead teams in a Teamwork culture.

• Has Bias for Action and leads change towards improvement.

• Strong leadership skills, including the ability to think strategically, solve problems and create a motivating team environment to provide innovative solutions to customer challenges.

• Ability to select and hire “A” players, continuously develops employees, coaches to maximize performance and manages underperformers.

Job Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science or equivalent.

8+ years’ experience in controls design and implementation.

Strong leadership and management skills.

Proven experience in controls strategy within the data center cooling industry, HVAC or HVAC-related field.

Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.

Proficient in HVAC software systems, DDC/PLC-based controllers, building automation protocols, pumps, VFD’s and sensor/actuator systems.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred

Minimum of 10 years of related experience
