Job Description
OBJECTIVES
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, shelves library materials, maintains order of materials and covers books.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Sorts, shelves, and files various library materials accurately according to library classification systems.
Reads shelves for accuracy and reshelves misplaced items.
Applies book covers to books.
Attends and participates in scheduled Page meetings.
Keeps public areas neat and orderly (i.e. push in chairs, collect stray materials and shelve correctly, etc.)
Searches collection and pulls library materials contained on various lists.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of principles of decimals in general and the Dewey Decimal System in particular.
Knowledge of filing in alphabetical order.
Some knowledge of library operations is helpful.
Ability to type and operate computer office programs.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with others.
Regularly and predictably attend scheduled work.
Maintain the library and its collections in good order.
Accept constructive criticism.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT OPERATION
Operates the following equipment as required, including but not limited to, computers, printers, photocopier, paper cutter, other general office equipment.
REQUIRED PHYSICAL EFFORT
Must be able to bend, lift, reach, stand, stoop, sit, push heavy carts and move throughout the library as necessary and work continuously for extended periods of time.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum)
Minimum of 14 years of age; must be able to read at grade level.
