Description
Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent, the program coordinator for World Language will be responsible for the four major areas of instructional leadership: curriculum and instruction; supervision and evaluation of teachers; staff development; and administration.
Responsibilities
Performance Responsibilities:
Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
Working under the direction of the principals and Assistant Superintendent and Learning, responsible for advising and assisting in the design, development, implementation, and coordination, monitoring and evaluation of the programs in world language to provide a continuous and articulated program in grades K - 12.
Working with principals and Assistant Superintendent, recommend instructional materials and educational technologies for programs at specific grade levels.
Co-facilitate the world language curriculum council to review updated standards and coordinate curriculum mapping, vertical articulation, and district assessments.
Facilitate monthly meetings with world language staff in order to support faculty and student needs.
Support implementation and professional development required for textbook adoption and coordinate textbook ordering.
Work with principals and Assistant Superintendent to establish goals and objectives for each school year in the area of world language instruction.
Make classroom observations for the purpose of analyzing and evaluating the program.
Provide training and technical assistance to school staffs in the area of interpretation of data results, analysis, and performance improvement.
Work with principals and teachers to develop and update assessment and evaluation tools to measure district achievement in world language and ESL.
Assist world language teachers and principals in the coordination of the state and local assessments across the district.
Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent, assumes responsibility for general supervision of assigned areas and is accountable for results in terms of achievement, differentiated teaching methods, response to intervention, staff utilization, and cost effectiveness.
Supervision and evaluation of teachers
Supervise pre-professional and professional world language teachers.
Evaluate teacher performance.
Staff Development
Evaluate and recommend professional develop needs; coordinate with Assistant Superintendent to provide professional development opportunities.
Provide consultant teacher services regarding instructional strategies for classroom teachers.
Participate in the Andover New Teacher Induction and Mentor Program.
Provide and facilitate staff development opportunities for teachers both during and after school hours by teaching demonstrations lessons, conducting workshops, and other activities as required.
Keep abreast of current trends of curriculum, instruction, methods, materials and supervision through memberships in and attendance at various professional organizations and institutes. Responsible for reading and disseminating pertinent information to faculty members relative to world language.
Administration
Serve as a member of HS Instructional Leadership Team.
Assist in determining qualifications for teacher positions specific to world language, screening applicants for such positions, and recommending candidates to building principals for interviews. Participate in interviewing, selecting, and assigning new teachers.
Make recommendations to the principals regarding personnel within the program area.
Prepare and justifies budget recommendations for world language grades 6-12, for the Assistant Superintendent.
Report to the community at large concerning programs by means of presentations to parent and civic groups, newspaper releases, and school committee reports as required.
Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Master's Degree in Foreign Language.
Massachusetts Certification as Supervisor/Director.
Minimum of three years' experience in supervision or administration.
Minimum of five years' teaching experience preferred.
Excellent leadership and communication skills.
Knowledge of relevant educational technologies and the ability to integrate technology in the program area.
Capacity to work in a collegial setting and to set high academic and instructional expectations.
Demonstrations of successful teaching experience.
Experience in interdisciplinary curriculum, instructional design, implementation, and program evaluation.
Experience in curriculum development.
