Job Description:
The Field Engineer – ECP plays a critical role in ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and safety of Electronic Cold-Pasteurization™ (ECP) systems, including linear accelerators and associated high-tech components. This role is responsible for performing a full range of engineering support functions, including troubleshooting, repairs, installation, system upgrades, and preventative maintenance of all designated ECP equipment.
Operating at the intersection of Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear, and Systems Engineering, this position contributes to cross-functional projects. The Field Engineer will engage in engineering design, fabrication and assembly, project planning, technical documentation, system diagnostics, and commissioning of new or upgraded systems.
Success in this role requires strong technical expertise, a hands-on approach, and a high level of professional communication. The engineer will work closely with fellow team members, project managers, and technical specialists to ensure the smooth execution of engineering initiatives and field operations. This role may also involve travel to various sites and the need to respond to urgent technical issues that could disrupt commercial operation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair ECP systems (linear accelerators) and components, including high vacuum systems, RF systems, high voltage systems, magnets, ECP utilities, etc.
Collaborate with internal/external personnel on the design, testing strategy, and implementation of maintenance, installation, and system upgrade projects
Provide emergency support to operational and corporate sites in troubleshooting and resolving issues that prevent commercial operation, which could result in the need to travel with short notice
Understand and recognize the need to escalate incidents to the proper group when necessary
Develop and maintain strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to support maintenance activities, root cause analyses, project planning, and design efforts
Apply electrical/I&C skills such as debugging/troubleshooting PLCs, building out electronic boxes/panels, understanding the ECP control system logic, and reviewing historical trace data to support ECP design and troubleshooting activities
Monitor critical operating parameters to identify any abnormal operating conditions
Develop tools/documentation and lead training sessions to expand maintenance capabilities within Reveam in areas such as high vacuum, waveguide, high voltage, and fabrication/assembly
Build/fabricate components when off the shelf items do not satisfy project requirements
Travel to new testing/production locations and install sensitive equipment for the location or upgrade existing equipment and ensure startup of components/ hardware.
Become efficient in operating the ECP system to verify success of system repairs and upgrades
Use Microsoft business tools and other software for analysis, documentation, and communication
Qualifications
BS in Engineering is preferred with candidates with equivalent field or relevant work experience also to be considered
AS Degree in electronic technology, electronic engineering or related areas.
Must have 2 – 5 years of experience with one or more of the following: particle accelerators, RF systems, vacuum systems, high voltage equipment, mechanical and electromechanical systems, PLCs, magnets, etc.
Must have experience in electronic/electromechanical system troubleshooting
Must be able to stand and sit and work in difficult area for extended periods of time
Must speak and write in English. Ability to speak Spanish is a plus
Must be willing to occasionally work overtime, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts as required or respond to emergency call-ins
Must be willing to travel up to 20% to corporate and operational sites with limited notice
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Must be able to successfully complete Radiation Safety training/certification
Must be able to successfully complete High Voltage Training
Must be willing to successfully complete ECP system (LINAC) training/ certification
Must be willing to attend training sessions, workshops, and webinars to expand knowledge base in support of projects and initiatives
Non-degreed candidates interested in completing educational programs relevant to the position will be encouraged to do so
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to move from location to location, operate, detect, diagnose, remove, install, modify, use and control machinery, equipment and tools in the work environment. Constantly positions self to maintain, operate and assess equipment, including underneath, inside, beside and above. Must be able to frequently ascend and descend spiraling staircases and work in confined spaces. Must be able to communicate, detect, discern, and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. This job includes close vision and adjusting focus to detect, discern, operate and inspect. The employee is regularly exposed to energized electrical gear, moving mechanical parts, tools and vehicles. Also, the employee is occasionally exposed to low permissible levels of ionizing radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Constant work temperature averages 41F is required.
