IGS is currently pipelining a Sr. Systems Engineer consultant to support the Department of Veterans Affairs.
This position is pending contract award, applicants will be reviewed post-award.
Assignment of Work and Travel:
This is a remote access assignment. Candidates will work remotely daily and will remotely access VA systems and therein use approved VA provided communications systems. Travel is not required; however, the candidate may be required to attend onsite client meetings as requested.
Responsibilities and Duties (Included but not limited to):
Install, configure and maintain approved Operating system (OS) versions which can include Windows 2016, 2012 R2, 2008 R2, 2016, and various Linux distributions including OS patching, drivers and hardware firmware.
Build Windows and Linux systems from bare metal, both virtual and physical
Harden servers per VA STIG guidelines
Perform operating system upgrades and patching weekly or as needed.
Adjust or migrate physical and virtual machines to the cloud
Perform monthly security patching and vulnerability remediation
Administer Microsoft HYPER-V clusters and Virtual Machine Manager
Perform Physical and Virtual server builds weekly
Conduct System optimization and updating
Conduct General Windows System troubleshooting
Conduct Server performance bottleneck troubleshooting
Maintain or create group policies/ local policies required by VA security entities
Assist with troubleshooting RDP issues from clients
Patch all systems to minimize security vulnerabilities and stay in ATO compliance.
Report on any system issues and document any system additions or modifications as part of the Weekly Status Report.
Other duties as assigned Requirements
3 years of experience in Systems Administration to include Linux experience
BS degree: computer science, electronics engineering, or other engineering or technical discipline (Bachelor's Degree - Can be substituted for an Associate's Degree and two (2) additional years of relevant experience, or four (4) additional years of relevant experience and High School Diploma/GED. Associate's degree - Can be substituted for High School Diploma/GED and two (2) additional years' relevant experience.)
Windows 2016, 2012 R2, 2008 R2, 2016 administration
Patching, installing, configuring, and maintaining Windows Servers
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration
CentOS administration
Strong understanding of cloud security best practices.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
Ability to obtain and maintain VA Public Trust.
Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship due to clearance requirements. Preferred Qualifications and Core Competencies:
